Warmth

"Ren," She called out longingly as his name rolled off her tongue like melted caramel, producing misty haze in the bone-chilling air. "Kiss me."

"Kate, you..." He bit down the words that were almost voiced out with his gaze still wholly on her. The cloaked man cut himself off, merely because they both knew what fate has bestowed them with.

Sea blue eyes engaged themselves in a staring contest with a pair of narrowed crimson reds. Icy cold and fiery passionate. The polar opposites. But for this instance, the two pair of eyes reflected the exact same emotions.

Sorrow, unwillingness and anguish.

She knew the young man had silently agreed when he made his way to her side and leaned closer. The crown on her head was unshakable even when she looked up at her beloved. Just like the fact that she had never let her decision and hope that she instilled in the glorious accessory falter before.

"Thank you." She whispered into his ear when she embraced him as her blue dress fluttered behind her.

Their lips pressed tightly together, and immediately, she felt something inside her vanish. She closed her eyes that were burned with tears and tightened the hug, seeking the warmth she never had for the last time.

This is the last time. Kate reminded herself.

Their lips separated and she mustered up the brightest, gentlest and...warmest smile she could ever direct at him. "Goodbye, Ren."

The last thing she saw before everything blurred and turned white, was her tears that froze and cracked, losing its existence in this world.

Just like me.

He cried out in remorse as he reached out his hand but couldn't grab ahold of her. "Kate!" Tears streamed down his cheeks as he could do nothing but watch as she turned translucent and gone, forever.
