Three Days To Kill

Rio De’Janeiro, Wednesday, 9.35 am.

Ava and I stayed in one of the least famous hotel in Rio, after that long flight from New York, we finally found a good place to settle in. The view from the Hotel’s veranda was stunning. Beautifully facing the beach. The blue sky that morning was decorated by flying sea gulls with the sounds of people chattering from far, some sights of people surfing and sailing on their yachts, made me miss vacation. We had our cappuccinos served on the table right next to the bed by the hotel’s room service, with a nice heart shape milk cream on it.

“Fancy a drink?” Ava said.
“Sure. Smells really nice.” I replied. Ava sit next to me on the bed, reading a magazine. So unlike her. I always thought a woman like her wouldn’t care with girly stuff they showed on television or whatever they promoted on any advertising company that tricked people into buying their product.
“Rubbish!” She threw the magazine away. “There’s no way that combination gonna work on me. Who wants to wear a dress with a big red dot pattern on it and a hair tie with yellow ribbon? This industry needs help.” Ava took a little sip from her cappuccino and I asked her a random question.
“How old are you?”
“Excuse me? What kind of question is that Martin?”
“I’m sorry. Just asking. I’m forty two by the way.”
“Well, thank you for letting me know about that. Okay this conversation is awkward. Next topic?”
“Agree.” I felt so embarrassed. I thought I saw Ava had that smirked on her face, I was probably blushing. Shit!

Then it hit me. I’ve been wanting to ask her this other question for so long.
“Ava, how did you survive the explosion at the governor’s house?”
“Now that’s a question.” She replied.
“The governor's house was completely blown to smithereens, there’s no way anyone can survive that. I saw the tape, it was …” Ava cut my words before I could even finished.
“Impossible? There’s nothing impossible if you know what to do. The whole building was planted with C-4, they trapped me to assassinate the governor in his own house. Seconds before the building was doomed, I managed to chase after the governor who ran down to the basement, I killed him, I noticed he was heading to something in the basement.”
“What do you mean?” I asked curiously.
“There’s a secret tunnel in the basement linked to the nearest park around Moscow. I barely managed to enter the tunnel when the building started exploding. The loud sound echoed through the tunnel almost made me deaf. But I’m glad that I survived.”

“And you survived, without telling me that you’re still alive for years.”
“I’m sorry Martin. I had to. I need to clear up my mind. But how did you know I was alive when you started contacting me just about recently?”
“Because I know you won’t die that easy Ava. There’s no way they can’t find your body at the building but the governor, unless you had managed to escape.”
“So that’s that.”
“Yes, that’s that.”
