Shine Bright Like A Diamond

“Bring me my coffee here! What took you so long you stupid child!” said Bill, Bella’s father.
“Here daddy, sorry.”
“You’ll be so sorry if I grounded you here at home. I don’t like you being friend with your black, asian, indian and muslim friends at school. I saw you Bella. Do it again, you’ll know how far the distance between sky and earth.” Bella just nodded, knowing that her father bad tempered habit will lead to a big trouble. She knows that he is the biggest racist in the family but she still love him, because he was her father. She used to think of him as a hero, to protect her and her mother. But not now.
“Bill, you shouldn’t be saying like that. You need to respect …”
“Shut it Margaret! Do not interfere when you have no problem with me!”
“I was just trying to . . .”

“Prakkk!” Margaret’s forehead bleed as the cup hit her. Bella saw her abusive father threw the cup to her mother. Margaret was a very kind and softhearted woman. How was her mother ended up with her father, she knew not. Bella was enraged to saw her mother got hurt. She would rather took the beating and not her mother. She’s been slapped, punched, kicked and even being push to the wall on the head, hard.
“Wipe that out Margaret, I don’t want to see it. And please smile a bit. Do you understand?”
“I understand Bill.”
“Go to the kitchen and cook something for me.” Margaret walked away and did as what she was told. Bella could hear her mother was crying in the kitchen. She wanted to go to comfort her, but she knew she couldn’t because her father wasn’t finished with her yet.
“Margaret I could hear your sobbing from here, if you don’t stop you’ll have another cup on your head! Get over it!” Bill then faced Bella.

“Bella, we are white people do not negotiate with other races. Those immigrants and refugees, came to this country, they steal our jobs, steal our money, steal our homes and the risks of us being homeless is critical. The blacks should have been slaves and have no rights on this land. The muslims! Those radical extremists! If I got near to any of them, I swear I’m gonna finish them off and rip them apart!” Bella couldn’t believe what she had just heard. Her father was a bully, abusive and a racist bastard. A total monster.

But even so, all of his favourite food was from other races and cultures such as Italian, Chinese, Thai, Indian etc, whenever we went out to dine at the restaurant. She wanted to talk to him about that, but she knew she just couldn’t pick up a fight with him. Her mother will get hurt. Bella couldn’t stand to look at her mother getting beaten up. Whenever things like that happened she would try her best to get her father’s attention on her so that she could divert her father from hitting her mother. Bruises and cuts were very normal to her. The only thing remained was to report him to the police. But she just couldn’t. Even her mother won’t do it. Not because they were afraid of her father’s beating, but they afraid of losing him. He was the head of the family. He brought the money from work and feed them. The world was different in every aspect of life. There were fortunate and unfortunate people. It’s up to us to change our life to be a better person and to achieve that, we need to work together, help each other, respect each other, then we would be living in a world without war and greed, granted a peaceful life, harmonious and prosperity. Bella hated her father, but she loved him. But never wanted to be like him. She’s the future to make the world a better place.
