Most Hollywood films nowadays are based on adaptation of some best selling novels from author such as J.R.R Tolkien, J.K Rowling, C.S Lewis, Stephanie Meyers, Rick Riordan, Jules Verne, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and many more. As a young man in his early 20’s, I deeply encourage our youth to train ourselves to make reading as part of our daily routine or better as life companion. Reading is an adventure, whether the book is in English or other languages, a novel or a reference book. By reading, we get to know many things, things that we never have known before and things that we have been longing and curious to know more about in much more deep major explanation.
I am sure that most of us know how to read and we have been taught since early as pre-school. Back in my school days reading in English helped me excel in my English Language subject, especially in writing composition and comprehension. It was not just that, it improved my grammar tremendously as I am getting more and more interested in discovering the world of reading. I remember the first book I have ever read, “The Sword In The Stone” by T.H White, it was about a young boy named as “The Wart” a squire to his brother Kay who was able to pull up a sword Excalibur buried in a stone, where many of the older men was not able to. He was then granted the title King to rule entire England. A wizard named Merlin was one of his best companions who helped him a lot through his wonderful journey. I really enjoy reading as much as people enjoy watching films, but by reading, you can create your own imagination how the stories and events take place. I never liked watching a film before I read the book, because most of the times Hollywood love to change the original plot. This actually ruined the whole situation and the stories did not go as it should be. So by reading the book first, you get to know the real events before you went surprised after watching the film.
The magical power of reading is that you don’t have to travel to go to another place but just to stay on your comfortable couch and having a couple of coffees. Reading a book based on your favorite genre, like me, I enjoyed reading Fantasy Fiction, Crime Thrillers & Sci-Fiction, I would never ever realised that I finished a 300 – 500 pages book less than in five hours! Once you are into the book, you will be transported into that dimension and you would be so surprised that the time has gone passing by quickly. This is why I wanted and urged our young children to have the heart for the love of reading, not wasting time doing something that will not bring anything good to them, being disrespectful to both parents and teachers, escape from school, wasting money on video games, gadgets, fashion trends, unnecessary accessories and many more. To those who do not like to read, please, give yourself a chance, save some money and buy a book on any genre you like and start reading. I believe that one day we will have a strong and powerful generations who appreciate literature as much as I do and that they will lead us to a brighter future. Who knows that in the near future there will be someone who will excel in literature and bring our country’s name on the eyes of the world to be one of the greatest scholars the world have ever known. How do we make it a reality? By teaching our young children to read from the age of six and show them that a generation that loves to read will lighten up a darker future.
“A room without books is like a body without a soul.” – Marcus Tullius Cicero.
