Generally, people say life is short so you should enjoy to the fullest, however,I have come across people who knows that their life is short but cannot enjoy to the fullest.
In 2011 my grandmother had a heart surgery in PG hospital in Kolkata, which is one of the busy metropolitan city in India. As she got admitted for the surgery, my mother and I used to visit my granny in the visiting hours everyday. The first day when I entered that hospital it was to much crowded with people and few people were crying because of some mishap, few of them were running to admit the patient in casualty and so many cases. I was feeling suffocated in that environment so just wanted to make the visit as short as possible. My granny fortunately got a shared room with two beds, as people struggle to get beds available.
When I entered that room I saw a boy who was five years old lying on the other bed and his mother was sitting beside him and feeding him lunch.
He looked at us and asked his mother as to what happened to my granny, so, slightly with some discomfort she started speaking to my mother about my granny. The boy was very sweet and had a big smile on his face, however, he was too much irritated with the channel that was fixed on his left hand to induce medicines. As my mom was already in a conversation with his mother , through that I came to know that he is suffering from blood cancer and as there was no remedy to get him cured completely ,so twice a month he used to get admitted to get his blood changed. His mother was in tears while telling that as he is too small to go through that therapy and also he was her only son.
While speaking, we saw a gentleman coming inside the room with some prescription and medical reports. He was completely looking shattered and confused as to how he will explain about the critical situation of his son to his wife. While they were speaking,I came to know that their child, Soham was in last stage and even blood change therapy was not possible as when they took blood to do the medical test it was turning purple. My mom was very busy to do all the admission formalities, whereas, I was sitting beside my granny and listening to them. Even my granny was in tears after hearing about that small child.Almost everyday I use to go with my mother to visit not only my granny but also Soham who was struggling to live.
Everyday I used to take either chocolate or apples for him as he was very fond of eating both of them. Soham used to call my mother as aunty and everyday he used to ask her to tell a story. I always prayed to God not only for my granny but also for Soham to get well soon, however , at some point,He made me realised that all wish cannot be fulfilled. A day before the heart surgery took place I saw the bed next to my granny was empty.Immediately, seeing the bed empty I felt Soham got discharged.................however, at the end I was completely taken back to know that he got discharged from his life.We got so much attached to that family but still we didn't have any words to comfort his parents.I missed his big smile and his presence in that room ,I still miss him. I love you Soham..................

March 21, 2015 - 01:40 Oh :( I, too almost lost a cousin just recently. I wouldn't know how to feel if he wasn't revived. Fortunately, for some miracle, he got back. I also wrote a story for that because sometimes, we could have a lighter heart after that.manelyn
