Over to a wedding bash...

by Susan Jacob
It was a fine rainy morning in the mid of April. That was our first journey to the land of food, that is how I would like to call Calicut. There is a speciality for this journey, as we are heading to attend our soul-mates' Big Day.

I remember when I droozed of to sleep in bus, we were somewhere near Mysore n it was raining hard. Ann was sleeping next to me. She was smiling softly. My granny always used to tell me,, when someone smiles in sleep, its Angels visiting them.
All my landmark journeys i had made after coming to Bangalore..its with Ann.

My ears started hurting me n that is when I opened my eyes. I could see water drops still running down the glass hitting the ones below it. But it was not raining outside. Instead it was heavy snow that i could barely see anything. Wonder how the driver was streaming forward. It should be around 4. I reached for my phone. Yes, its 4.30. Another 2 hours, we will reach Calicut. My ears are still hurting me, a feeling like I am turning deaf. I tried to deviate my thoughts, but in vein.

Bus is swaying sideways, yes we are descending down the altitude. Guess it should be the Thamarassery Churam. Ann was still asleep.

We reached Calicut. One of our acquaintance was there to pick us and we headed to Nayana's home. He almost fainted seeing the luggage we had brought!! Though we are not that girlish, but at times it happens like when it is your best friends'D Day. You have to carry all your make-me-look-perfect things !!

It was a typical Kerala Hindu home. Muthassy(grand-dad), Muthassan(grand-ma), Achan(dad), Amma(mom) and a houseful of relatives. Nayana was messy getting ready for the premarital photo-shoot. Achan was shouting like anything, as the shoot is scheduled at their Kudumbakshethram(family temple) and the Poojari will wind up by 8 in the morning. Its already 7.30! And now that was high time we do our we-will-make-you-beautiful stuffs on Nayana and somehow got her ready for the shoot. She is beautiful, a picture perfect creature. The shoot was no doubt an ohh-my-god-its-damn-boring thing.

We reached back by noon and almost the entire Cherukulam was there at her home. It is always the same in Kerala Villages. U have a function at your home means everybody in the village will be there to help you out, fix things and all regardless of whether they are asked to or not. They day went on well and my stomach was filled full-tank with hell loads of things. Do these people here "Live to Eat" or "Eat to Live" !! I doubt!!

The next morning when I woke up, I had a cup of coffee at my table. We had our stay at Bhadra Ammaye(aunt), one of her cousins. She was a typical aristocrat lady. One among those who definitely catches your attention. It was around 5.30. I was sipping the coffee at the balcony when I saw Nayana going to the temple. It was their custom to visit your Kudumbakshethram before your marriage. She was wearing a Kerala Saree. May be its the happiness inside that makes you look like a goddess on your wedding day. For her it is an eight year long dream come true. May the Good Lord Bless you girl.

The time we headed back to Bangalore after the marriage we had a sense of missing something in our mind. Though it was just 2 days acquaintance, there was something unnatural in the attachment that we felt for them. I normally do not allow anyone to my inner circle but this was like something that brought us so close...
