Potterheads

To all the potterheads out there and to my colleague, Delma sitting very next to me in my office, a die hard Harry Potter fan, uhh, i will correct it to a die hard Sirius Black fan :)

Have you ever wondered why this particular series had such an ever lasting influence on your life. It has always taken us up to the cloud nine ecstacy heating up the suspense till the very end. And the realisation that harry potter series is over and that you have nothing more to wait for years, literally brought tears to your eyes.That was a ten years long story telling....and that too at the peak time of our life when we were adicted to books and felt like reading anything and everything that came across us.

I still remember the day when i started reading the first book, i was 12 years old. I never knew the book was a part of this big series. By the time i finished the first, i ran to the "vayanasala" , that is where i get books to read from normally cus i live in a remote village. And after the second book, the long wait started... waiting years for each book to get released. I would cuddle up myself in front of television on the day each book gets released and i guess all the potterheads does that on the big day cus we would defenitely have a news on the bloomsburry release of yet another world-wide hit series Harry Potter. On the release date of seventh book, there were news on the "after ninteen years" part in the book. God I remember those days dying to get the book. Always it was huge long waiting list for the Harry Potter new release at the library. The harry potter fans club at school, the four houses and everybody longing for the Gryffindor and the least wanted Ravenclaw. How much we wished we had a broomstick on our own , nothing less than Firebolt :D atleast a minimum of Nimbus 2000. All those charms and spells that would have been a great help if it really existed. Accio, Alohomora, Lumuos, Stupify.. loved those spells. The entry to the Harry Potter fans club was based on the score for a quiz conducted and the one with the top mark where always the privileged one, quiet like a class topper.


Now, sixteen years later, as I sit here in front of my laptop, when i have access to each and everybooks on earth be it e-book or hard copy, I still coudnt find a single book that is more closer to my heart or has created such an impact other than Harry Potter. Fed up with my busy schedule at work, I chat with my colleague, sitting next to me and when the Harry Potter topic comes, we just forget everything else around us. Can't accept the fact that we are still clinging on to the old witch and wizard story that we had started reading long before we had even turned into our teens. We were always proud to be potterheads. I don't understand what is there so much in having read a book, but all the Harry Potter fans consider it as a feather on their cap. May be it is the divine ability of the author to take you to an imaginary world, carry you through the world for ten long years and leave you back there. Even if you come out of it, the traces never leaves you, a memory you always wanted to treasure , and a place where you always wanted to go if had a one in million chance. It is such an immense pleasure to have some potter fans around, chit-chat on the books, come up with your own weird ideas, like the join of Harry and Luna, which even Rowling woudnt have ever thought of. All those out there who never had a chance to read the book, just go for it, you are missing something very badly. You will never know its taste unless you taste it, and once you did, you will always need it.
