Every year people will die. Charlie always imagine it was an extremely long queue to take turn for every human to meet the reaper. and he thought, if humans have a line, then every other creature on earth does too. the line is a random system which doesn't relate to following ages, sex, family or ancestry. its just like, the line wasn't according to plan. it happens in a very short time and produce more creature so it will not end until the end of time.
and on this very day, its charlie's gold fish turn to meet the reaper. it died getting stabbed on a nail. Now the problem is, how is that even possible?? maybe god loves that goldfish. Or maybe the goldfish hates living with him.
Charlie had another thought, maybe his goldfish had leave him because it knew he didn't actually wanted it. that goldfish was just his birthday gift. but hes not evil, of course he took care of it. poor goldfish. maybe he wanted love. and not just get taking care of.
the goldfish got flushed down..
Charlie remembered the last words he said to his fish. and probably also the first time.
"you know, you're not even important for my school homework. but i could consider taking care of you sincerely if you were a monster jellyfish. or maybe a 'Turritopsis jellyfish'.. that'll be nice."
he felt guilt. no not because he let his pet died. its because he didn't felt guilty for not feeling any sad for the goldfish fish.
shame...
A few days later, charlie saw a bunch of students gathering around. he went to see whats all the fuss about.
it turns out it was just about a different species kind of fish which Mark was holding in a container. charlie thought,'seriously? my essay is more important than that'
and so he walk away to class.
he seriously getting tired of hearing about fishes. his science lesson was experimenting an ocean creature. and yeah. it was a fish he had to operate.
Charlie went home early that day. well of course, who wouldn't if you're starting to hallucinate about a pile of living goldfishes fulled every sink in the school bathroom. it was terrifying.
And other thing, charlie heard Mark's fish saying his name. why did he even brought that fish to school anyway? its not a pet show today or anything.
Charlie stayed on his bed till night awakens. staring straight towards the ceiling. thinking about his fish. He never even gave it a name. he usually just called it 'you'. that fish made his thought full of curiosity and that's what made him kept awake.
"i was alive.."
charlie froze on his bed. hearing another guy's voice wasn't according to any of his plans in life. he turns his head that came from his door.
and seeing a golden skin dude also wasn't his plan. he also came with a suite?
"what the hell?..." charlie sat on his bed. locking his eye on the guy.
"i was just playing dead because i was hoping to see if you'd cry over me but instead, you threw me away with no reaction.."
charlie shakes his head. he stared down his feet.
"please tell me you're not my goldfish i flushed."
"yes master. i am your goldfish that you have flushed down the toilet. why master? i am, who i am..i cannot turn into a jellyfish. but i did my best to impress you.." he step closer in front of charlie who's can't stop rubbing all over his face and even pinching it. who knows if this is just a sick dream.
charlie tries to memories himself if he had drank his dad's beer today or got into some kind of 'dead pet drug'
"your not real. and i'm probably too tired because of thinking about my dead goldfish." he kept pinching himself all over his neck and head.
"Master, why do you kept pinching yourself? it seemed painful"
charlie stood up and slapped himself on the face. unexpectedly..
"okay thats it. lets cut to the chase here. if this is real, then what do you want me to do? so i could rest in piece"
"i do honestly wanted something from you. but i cannot say it.. but why i really came is that i just wanted to confess what i needed before you had threw me away. after this is finished, i'll be on my way.."
"what is it?.."
"master, you didn't seemed happy the second i arrival into your room. after you had me for the first time. i realized that you did not actually wanted me in the first place. i am sorry that you...'had' to took care of me before, master. all i wanted was love from my owner..but what i felt was nothing but grief..."
the room turned silent for a moment. charlie stood there with guilt running down his spine. this time was the real guilt. to him, that moment, dream and reality doesn't matter anymore.
"master, why didn't you just pass me off to another owner?.."
charlie took a moment to deep breath.
"well..that would make everybody dissapointed wouldn't it? getting a gift then give it away to someone else easily even when ya know the gift was meant for you." charlie thinks how sellfish he is about making that thought.
the golden fish nods his head a few time. charlie could see how disappointed the guy is.
"is there anything you want to say before i leave? master?"
"yeah. i do. i..i'm sorry. you know, you came unexpectedly on my birthday. and that day, was after my mom died. i couldn't think of anything then fulfilling her wish. and that wish was wanting me to pass my examination. which it was another 2 days left after you exists. and...so yeah...i'm sorry. you deserved a better owner."
Charlie goldfish dude smiled. "thats what i wanted to hear. your apology. thank you master. i will get going now"
"wait..is it okay if name you phil? i mean, i don't know what else to pay for what i did."
"phil is great! adorable... Thank you master. you finally named me."
Phil then fade away with a smile.
The End.
