I LOVE MY COUNTRY

by DavidBokolo
I LOVE MY COUNTRY

I love my country;
I love my Father’s Land.
I have high expectation for my country
and my father’s land.

I have seen fairer days.
I have beheld fresher moments.
That‘s what my Country behold.
That’s what my father’s land portrays.

My country was a shining light.
In a darkened and despised continent
where despotic and dictatorial leadership
held sway, casting gloom on her populace.

In a refreshing breathe of freshness,
my country has cast off her aura of
pariah cloak; now roams in golden caste.
Her sons and daughters are now proudly Nigerians.

Then in a gale festooned in mockery
and deception, adorned in messiah-ship;
feeding on the psychic of gullible
populace, a jackboot of yesteryear
Emerged.

Sweeping off our refreshing brightness,
marooning our hope and aspirations
in grim and gloom, where regimental
air of freedom now pervades our shore.

My beloved country has slipped into a
hazy thoroughfare, losing her bearing;
groping drunkenly into another age:
goaded by greedy and vengeful throng.

Who can halt this drift of my father’s land;
sliding into this beckoning abysmal cliff?
Who can clear this illusory haze that my
Country is been cast upon by a senile Captain?

Let others and the author know if you liked it

Liked it alot?

Too much love of the cat, they say, kills the moth. Most love relationship got broken as a result of wrongly managed petty frail nerves. Like as I love to say, just musing.
