We Almost Lost Him (A second life)

by manelyn
The ringing of my phone awakened me. My uncle was calling, "Fely, we lost your cousin," and told me in a tearful voice.

I felt numb and the memories of him suddenly flashed into my mind. My young cousin dying at a young age - I remember him as a happy boy, smart, playful and sweet. I couldn't find the right words to utter. I couldn't cry, but I also couldn't find the courage to condole him as I was also grieving.

"Did the doctors confirm it?" I finally asked him when I found my voice.

"Yes, they already removed all the apparatus," he replied. My mind whirled with that statement. There's really no hope to revive him.

He then asked me for my help in dealing with my cousin's funeral and all the necessary arrangements. I couldn't do anything to help them at the hospital as I was too far from them but to tell them that I will assist them with his burial.

Moments later, as I was thinking of things like their transportation from the hospital to their home, the funeral home to be contacted, among other things, I received a message.

"Fely, John woke up! A doctor came back here and did something that helped him!" my uncle exclaimed in his message.

I read the message twice, thrice, then a couple of times more. It was true. My cousin is alive! I was too happy and called them up in a while. "Is that true uncle Paul?" I asked him. "Yes Fely, he was given another chance," he said in a jubilant voice.

Now he's already recovering and is out of the hospital. He stays at home with his mother and siblings. He's given another life. He's given a miracle.
