The Story of the Roti

by Nightingale

Once Upon a Time in Khanaland. There lived Roti. "Yeah, that's me thought of making a folklore out of my story a bit. Thus becoming a LEGEND. Sigh! * Wishful thinking*

So, there you go folks my 'Rags to Riches' story unfolds."

I, the Roti was living under the tyrannical rule of the Notorious Brothers, Paratha - Kulchas & Co, who ruled the roost, erm, in this case, The Tandoors!
They with their buttery talks were luring the 'Dal Makhanis', Butter Chickens' and etc., towards their sly glossy appearance and gaining power in the Khanadom!

Their tyranny grew to such extent, that misery became our constant companion. We the Roti- Chappatis' were no longer in fashion among the elites, no longer were we served in the Wedding and Parties. The Curries too considered us ignominious for their repute and looked down upon us with Contempt!

This led to the sadistic pleasures of the rulers and their fellows, who never missed an opportunity to ridicule and insult Us. And, then It Happened to Me!

"Hey Bro, look there goes the 'wrinkled faced, mismatched Polka dotted, good for nobody eating fellow!' ", said the plump Stuffed Kulcha.

Ya Bro, those dirty looking losers, they are a disgrace to our Khanadom, we should oust them once and for all!", retorted the greasy Naan with Venom.

That very comment scarred the integrity in me, that's when I entrusted myself to bring back the glory of Yore, and set on the Journey to Destiny.
Throughout My Journey, I faced criticism and rejections. And, when I was about to give up. A Man who called himself 'Researcher' came to my rescue. He befriended me while I was on the edge of Hopelessness. And when he heard my Sob Story, he promised to help me out. He brought out the vital qualities to the World, honed my skills of nutrients and Carbohydrates. He showed my talent to the people as to how good I was to their health and they began to revere me and made me the important part of their lives!

My popularity soared overnight, I suddenly became a sought after Celeb to such extent that people started offering me Adverts and pretty ladies endorsed me, though, I've to confess they rolled me into bizarre shapes of continents and what not, Hmph! Luckily, in the end the Creative Heads put up the Best Profile of mine on TV!

Also, an important point, I give more 'Aashirwad' than 'Bauji '(Read: Aloknathji), yet, somehow his was more conspicuous, which resulted in him becoming a twitter sensation! Though, I strongly feel that should have been ME! Hmm... Nonetheless on the hindsight, I, brought an end to the totalitarianism of those Parantha and Kulcha that's actually a cheero point for me.

As for the Tandoor Tyrants, they occasionally sneak- peek in the Restaurants. But, I on the contrary rule the million Households, but with Humility.

BOTTOMLINE: Don't underestimate the power of a Common Chappati!

November 21, 2015 - 13:29 Hahahah! Fun stuff! I feel a strong connection to this piece, as Roti is my all-time favourite food in the world (I'm Canadian, so it's likely not as common here as other parts of the world). You got a chuckle or two out of me and i found this to be quite creative in a light and easily digestible way! Keep writing! -Patrick
