Rose side cottage naturally sounds like a lovely cottage name. Possibly located in a quiet rural setting somewhere. At least that was exactly what all of the McCoy family thought. But little did they know what they would really be in for.
Today was the last day of the school term at the Mayfield secondary school. Before the long summer holidays began, Tara McCoy thought to herself happily. It was also the very last day that Tara McCoy would be attending the Mayfield secondary school. The school was located just in the outskirt of the Mayfield town centre. Tara McCoy felt a mixture of different emotions deep inside of her at the same time. Firstly she felt happy as she, like her family, looked really forward for the move to a lovely little rural area called Merlton. Not to mention she was relieved that there would no schoolwork and exam stress for a while, what more could she want at the moment. However she felt a little sad that she would be seeing her best friend Becky Lester, now a lot less. Even though they both promised that they would stay in touch with each other as much as possible. As well as send each other mobile messages, which she was sure she would.
That same Friday afternoon midway through, turned out to be such a lovely sunny day. It was forecast in the local weather news that there would be a heat wave during the week. The heat outside especially that afternoon, became so intense, that the streets became really quiet in the Mayfield local town. The residents of the area spent their afternoon inside to shelter from the hot sun rays. The McCoy family had pretty much finished packing and mentally preparing themselves for moving house during the last week or so. Tara`s mother, Patricia McCoy, especially, had always dreamed of living in a quiet rural area ever since she could remember. She always smiled whenever she thought back to that afternoon when she stayed over at one of her friends house for a visit. And they would often end up chatting about where would plan to live when they got older. Which was why, Patricia McCoy, felt really delighted when Jack McCoy, her partner, bought the rural rose side cottage. After he had got himself a new job working there.
Before they knew it, the day to move house had finally come. Much to their delight. Even though at one point it seemed to take forever before it happened. Tara McCoy got up in the morning a little earlier than usual. And after she helped to finish the last straw of her own packing in her bedroom, she spent the rest of the morning until around eleven o`clock, gracefully texting her best friend Becky Lester, who was currently sitting in her family car stuck in bad traffic getting frustrated and impatient. Who she had been best friends with for a long time. Ever since they both started secondary school. At eleven o clock the white house removals van had arrived and parked outside on the road opposite their house. The total journey took the McCoy family a good hour and a half. Long enough considering that the traffic on the last roundabout got pretty busy especially being an early Saturday afternoon. Which was pretty much typical. They just went to the Rose side cottage to have a tour around just the once and knew they wanted to move there. From the first sight.
The McCoy family was so glad by the time they had arrived at their new cottage to be. Home sweet home they said to themselves a few times with a big smile plastered to their faces. They so knew that they would enjoy living in this specific rural location. No second thoughts about it that they had. From the outside of the Rose side little cottage, it looked completely fine and welcoming. And they all spent some time just admiring the view from around their new cottage. Which was an absolutely stunning view of many fields and hills all around them. Especially on a nice sunny day like today. But it was a totally different story on the inside of the rose side cottage. On the first evening of living there they suddenly knew that things were not totally right. They could sense it. The interior of the cottage always went really icy cold, even during the hot summer months. And sometimes things would just go missing or fall off shelves with nobody actually touching anything. The atmosphere felt totally not right at all. Things just continued this way. Until they got told about the history of the rose side cottage. Which really surprised them when they got told. They did not know whether to believe what they got told. That was the trouble.
