Guardian - Chapter six

It is Friday night the end of an exhausting week, “thank God, I am going out with my cousin Joe tonight.” I exclaim to no one but myself.
Excitement mixed with nervousness grips my tummy and I find myself running to the loo a little too much before Joe is scheduled to pick me up.
My excited/unease is evaporated the moment I hear the load music emanating from a car parked outside.
“Bye Mum and Dad!” I call out before I race towards the door to leave.
The night begins in its usual order with the same questions; how are you? How is college? How is mum and dad at home? ……
We drive to our usual spot which is the parking lot of a shopping center. The shops are all closed, but the restaurants are still buzzing with life, we park by the closed shops so that we have privacy from the other strangers that might glare at out crazy antics and absurd manner.

We arrive to find a few of our friends already invading the area, but with those friends I notice that there is a new face in the usual crowd.
“I’d like to introduce you to a new friend” Joe declares very excitedly.
“Who is he?”
“Someone you've never met before.” He winks.
We finally get out of the car and I am instantly crowded with friends that I haven’t seen for an entire week. Enclosed by warm hugs I feel a pair of eyes on me, I turn and notice that the stranger amongst my friends is watching me closely, amusement playing in his eyes.
I am pulled towards a different circle of friends, to catch up with some stories that I had missed during the week. Although I am engrossed in conversation with my friends, my mind keeps drifting to the pair of eyes that I can still feel starting at me.
“Come, let me show someone who my cousin is” Joe says as he pulls me away from the crowd, and walks towards the guy that has been starting at me for the last twenty minutes.
The guy is fair, tall although he is muscular, his built suits his height. He is lounging against a car (which I am assuming is his). He looks into my eyes and I notice that he has got the same hazel colour eyes as mine. His nose and jawline compliments his high cheek bones. Over all he is handsome, he reminds me of Klaus from The Originals.
“This is Zain, he has been my friends for the last 2 months, and I met him when I was in Cape Town during December. I told him about you and I thought you two should meet.” Joe casually says.
“Joe!” screams someone from the other end of our crowd.
“This is my cousin Rose, we have been friends for a very long time.” He exclaims, he departs with a wink and leaves us.
I look up at this new face, wondering what to say. His eyes meet mine and I instantly feel a magnetic pull, I drop my gaze and give myself a mental shake. “This is crazy” I think to myself.
He reaches into his pocket to retrieve sweets, however he is not successful in grasping it and a few fall at my feet. We both bend down to pick it up, halfway down our heads collide with each other in an accidental bump.
“Ouch” I exclaim as I rub my head, there was no pain I just felt like overreacting.
We both reach again for the sweets, making sure that we don’t hit heads again, our heads reach the sweet at the same time and we touch……

An electric bolt shoots from my hand vibrating all the way to my core, a sense of familiarity claws at my instincts and my head spins with unreasoned truth.
I look at him and realise It is him, or so I think.
“It took you long enough to recognise me” he smiles, showing a hidden dimple.
“Guardian?” I ask astonishment seeping through every pore.
“Yes”
I could believe my ears, were my senses deceiving me? It is really him. My heart hammers in my head, my throat is suddenly dry. My words are lost in my thoughts and fear clutches my soul.
He steps forward and unceremoniously envelops me in a compassionate hug.
I naturally resist, but gradually I melt against him and the serenity from him engulfs my entire being.
“It really is you” I sigh into his ear and melt into him even more willing for our souls to merge into one.
I found him, no he has finally found me……….
