I felt him, not in my dreams but in reality-I feel him. His heartbeat, his breath everything that I thought for a moment didn't exist I now hold.
After a full ten minutes in an embrace, we break. An instant yearning tugs at me.
“I have so many questions for you, but right now the answers are not important, you being right here is. I spent so many moments thinking about you, because between the love and the hate in my life, the mere thought of you made me want to rip you out of my dreams. And now you finally here.” I sigh in satisfaction after confessing my feelings to him.
“I was waiting for the right moment to walk into your life, to hold you like I have and feel you completely. I don’t want to sound ungrateful to the moments we shared together in our dreams, but what I just felt can only be described as an intensified surreal rush of pleasure in its purest form.”
A faint blush heats my cheeks, I look down so that he doesn't notice, but he tips my chin up with his index finger and drinks his fill from my eyes with a gaze so enlightening my heart sings.
“Uh hum!”
I turn to find Joe watching us with an unreadable expression, his eyebrow arched in a questionable look, with hilarity sparkling in his eyes.
I give Zain a pleading look, willing him to try and forge an explanation and find a way to explain to an outsider why two strangers are looking into each other’s souls.
Joe finally breaks the silence “Do the two of you know each other?”
“Yes we do, we met a year ago and liked each other. We didn't recognise each other until you introduced us. The circumstances that we met in didn't give us the opportunity to even exchange names.” Zain truthfully says he looks into my eyes and confesses “but who knew that destiny would compel us to meet again”
My over-protective cousin started giving Zain the third degree on cousin dating, emphasizing on the rules, regulations and outcomes. (The outcomes were more threats and warnings). I roll my eyes when Joe stresses about how I should be safeguarded. The irony of that moment highlighted Joe’s ignorance where mine and Zain’s situation was concerned. Zain agrees to every rule that Joe puts forward, I turn away to recollect with the group, but I am stopped when a hand touches my shoulder. I turn and see that it was Zain who stopped me from leaving, his expression becomes serious and his gaze pierces the crux of me.
“Will you be mine? I promise to always protect you, to never hurt you. I promise to fight alongside you when the world is against you. To share every smile and tear. I promise to accept every aspect of you in its simplicity and never change anything about you. With Joe as my witness I promise to love you, your heart, your ambitions and your goals. I promise to respect you, and your rules. I promise to try and heal your old scars and to try and create new memories every day that they outshine our memories that we created yesterday. I promise to keep you safe, to shield you, to defend you and to always be your Guardian.
My chest felt as if it were opened and my heart was taken away, within the space of a few breaths, I unconditionally gave my heart to him. What else should I expect when I fell in love with him after my one dream?
I blushed deeply and tried looking into his eyes, but I couldn't, least not I get caught in his stare and forget about the world.
“As long as you don’t complain that you getting fat from my baking” I announce, trying to lighten up the atmosphere.
Joe expels his breath that I didn't know he was holding, he grips Zain in a man hug and welcomes him into the family. The scene that I am witnessing is filled with so much joy, I can’t help but laugh.
Zain and I spend the next hour holding hands in silence, listening to the chatter around us. Every once in a while, our gaze would meet and we’d be drawn to each other, until someone broke the spell.
By ten everyone was ready to leave beside the two of us. Zain and I exchanged contact details, he promised to tell me everything when we meet again next week Friday. He leads me to Joe’s car, opens the door for my, gently kissed me on my forehead and makes sure I am safely seated in the car before he gets into his own car.
After replying to Zain’s goodnight message, I lay awake thinking, hoping that everything wasn't a dream, that tomorrow when I wake up Zain will really be a part of my life and that he will still be my Guardian.
