Guardian - Chapter nine

Mist surrounds me blinding my vision forcing my other senses to be on high alert.

“Aaaaaaahhhh!” I hear a screeching scream, I turn around to try and see where it came from-blindness. I am in an unknown place Zain was right, this is war. I steady my heart beat and clench my fists. I might not be experienced in the art of war, but I would do anything to protect my family.

“Hahahahahaha!” The sound of unknown laughter taunting me by an unseen predator. Out of nowhere a flying dagger swishes past my face, I look down and there is a sword is at my feet. I refuse to let water vapour blind me, with the images of Chinese warriors’ sword skills in my mind’s eye, I perform similar acts. Swishing the sword through the air until the mist retracts from me.

The mist moves to reveal a person with yellow eyes, spooky in his old ragged clothing and black dread-lock hair. In this monsters hand is the dagger that nearly scooped my eye ball out.

As the mist continues to move I hear the clinking of metal, there are two figures fighting in the distance.

“Rose I’m here don’t be afraid” the sound of Zain’s voice gives me more confidence.

The monsters sneers at me, green slime spilling out through his nostrils. He advances towards me in slow steps. My confidence falters for a moment, but I have no choice-it is do or die.

I hold the sword upright, I've always been fond of medieval movies, and sword fighting can’t be so difficult.

He swerves his dagger towards my jugular, I counterattack by blocking him with my swords and the fight begins. His constant unplanned attacks that lead to me using a defense method. I find confidence to change the dance steps and kick the dreaded monster, while my sword holds his dagger in place. The monster screeches backwards in pain, only to throw himself at me in anger. Through the blows and metal I see blood dripping, the monster’s dagger has blood dripping from the blade, I look at my arm and notice a deep wound, but I don’t feel the pain. The monster licks the blood from his dagger and smiles, flashing his browned ugly teeth.

Anger surges within and I begin swinging my sword in every possible direction and fit in a few punches where ever I can. The result of my maniac behavior leads to a hideous monster wounded in various places, with green goo spilling from it.

I turn my face is disgust.

As the creature lay in a crumpled heap in front of me, there is no sign of pain on his face, only more anger. After a few seconds the monster vanishes from where it was. Just like how the shadow vanished, the monster disappeared as well.

I turn to see Zain, his battle is also over. His monster vanishes too. His eyes turn towards me and he sprints to my side.

“You’re hurt.” He exclaims.

“I don’t feel any pain, so I guess its fine.” He holds me to himself and lets out a sigh of relief.

I wake up in a sweat, with a warm feeling in my belly.

Victory, that’s what I feel.
