I walk onto a river front, fire flies gather around me, the light from the stars shine down to show me the way, and the sound of the water plays a harmonic tune that the wind dances to.
He is sitting by the water front alone, a sketch pad and pencil in his hand. His back is bent as if he is concentrating very hard on something.
I look at the beautiful night sky that is painted a natural midnight blue, and I start towards him.
His concentration is so pure that he does not hear me coming, only when I am upon him do I see what holds his attention captive.
He is sketching a picture of me looking out onto the water, half of my face lit from the glow of the stars. His eyes find me and he motions for me to sit in his arms.
The grass is soft and cool, and I lean back against his chest and feel his heartbeat. He puts his chin on my head and uses my knees as an anchor for his sketch pad and just like that he completes his drawing of me, while I gaze upon the water.
We sit in silence, with our love as one.
I wake up with a smile playing on my lips, I adore how my Guardian and I appreciate the silence between us. We utter no words yet there is an understanding in the simplicity of our silence.
My day passes with a supernatural urgency that I find myself alone in the lounge watching the last episode of Scooby-Doo that will be aired for the night.
My skin begins to crawl and a chill runs up my spine, I shake it off but I can’t help but feel scared. I brush of the thought of seeing the vanishing shadow again and continue to watch TV.
“All this ghost hunting has made me hungry Scooby”
“Me too Shaggy”
Out of the corner of my eye I see something black moving on the floor, I ignore the TV and jump up ready to attack the intruder with a cushion, until I see….
It is but a small black mouse trying to get into the kitchen, probably looking for crumbs to eat.
I laugh at my exaggeration and turn of the TV, too much cartoons drives a sixteen year old crazy.
As I walk into the kitchen I notice something by the kitchen door, a black mist begins to form into the figure of a person and slowly approaches me.
My heart begins to bang against my chest, my breath quickens and my head cannot comprehend what I am seeing. The shadow of a man, without the man being there himself, fear holds me in a deadly grip as the shadow nears me.
The need to protect myself rushes into my blood stream and I look around to find something to defend myself from a shadow man- the concept doesn't register in my brain even though my vision is still intact.
I close my eyes and think of my Guardian, in my heart I wish that he was here to protect me, to keep me safe, and to hold me until I am at peace, but he is not here and I am left alone to defend myself against mist.
I open my eyes and the shadow man has reached me, he stops and lifts his hand, I knife shape forms out of the same dark smoke that the shadow man is made of. The shadow knife begins its descend to pierce me.
“Guardian!” I scream in my head and heart, I hold my breath unable to bear the attack.
“Woooooooooh” A light wind sings.
The shadow man vanishes before my eyes, like sand being blown away.
The light breeze that blew the shadow man away surrounds me, it brings a serene feeling with it.
This breeze caresses my skin until all my fears vanish, at that single moment, I know that my guardian has just helped me.
I don’t know what he did, I don’t know how he did it, but I am truly grateful.
As I lay in bed I begin to wonder; what is a shadow man, where did he come from and most importantly…….
Why does he want to hurt me?
