"Turn right now". Ka-chick.
"Man, She's beautiful!". Click. Click. "Last one now." Minori-san smiles at me. Ka-chick, went the camera.
"Good job, Ko-Chan" I clasped myself down on a chair as my stylist, Kashima, hurriedly started retouching my makeup. "Your popularity is hitting the charts" She said, as her mouth twitched into a glossy grin. "And your laziness hitting the top tens." I murmured to myself before faking a smile. She blinked hard. I rolled my eyes before turning to my manager and other colleagues. "She's just sixteen and already on great demand" they kept going on. "How can you be this pretty?" One of my colleagues squealed. It's me we're talking about.
"I have an interview around 5" I declared as I got myself ready to leave. "The studio will be open for you, honey" Kashima said sweetly. "No thanks, I know someone even better". Better would be an understatement, He's wonderful! And thanks to my hair, I always have a reason to see him...
Slap. "Why did my boyfriend texted you?" Silence. Slap. "What an airhead! She's just so full of herself just because she's this pretty witty doll." Another Slap. "Your proud of your hair right? We'll teach you a lesson"...
I ran as fast as my bruised legs could take me. My hairs' a mess, with it's uneven strands poking my teary sky eyes.
What's the use of being this pretty, when no one cares about me? Everyone in my class saw what those girls did to me, Yet they didn't do anything. Their voices still echoing through my skull, "Dat a girl! She so deserves this", Laughter, "That's what you get for rejecting me", more laughter.
I clasped as I let out a loud cry.
"What's a cherry like you, rotting away like that?" A silvery voice that saved me that day. Made me sprout into a 'cherry' as he calls it. The perfect site of him leaning through an open door of this glorious, pale blue painted, three-story building. "Come on in, You just landed at the right place" That warm brown smile of his. A memory that still warms me up, even now after two years...A place that lifts me up...
I smiled at the memory as I entered 'Feel hair salon'. I'm embraced with the sound of busy hairstylists snipping n styling their customers hair. "Good afternoon, Ko-Chan" Fujiwara-san calls in her ringing voice. I grinned as I pointed out to my usual seat. She nodded in response before calling out for him. My chest grew tighter, That feeling again. I sat comfortably on my usual spot before adoring myself in the mirror.
"You look great, cherry" a modulated voice catchs me off guard. "T-Takashi-san" I squealed bashfully, "Heyo! Got an appointment today". He smiles with his brown eyes squinting. "Alright, lets try something classy today?heh?" Thud, went my heart. I long to see him.
So here starts our usual routine, me sitting here, eating a cup full of creamy cherries, especially made by Takashi-san. While he makes my hair. It's always been this way since we met. It costs me a whole fortune but I come here almost everyday, I guess it's the way he treats me so gently. His hardy hands feels so relaxing against my hair.
Or it could be more.
"You know they say, when a woman is in love" he says as he divides my hair in two,"She turns more beautiful" I stare at his reflection in the mirror. He stops before those brown eyes narrows.
"Could it be love?" I murmured to myself. "Katsumi!" The sound of my name being called getting audible."Katsumi Ko!" I gaze indifferently to Hiromi Jun, my best friend. "Moe, where the hell is your head?" She pouts, squinting her grey eyes. "Nothing", I replied tugging at my stripped polka dots velvet dress with a white pull over. "Daichi wants to know if you want any more of those Taylor swift albums?" Hiromi sighs as Daichi grins at me.
"hmmm?" I asked Hiromi as I plugged my earphones. She gives me this look before playing with her pink dyed hair. "Do you like someone?" I nearly choke on my own saliva. "Where did that come from?". She giggles,"Guys are head over heals for you, It's weird to see a girl like you all single and stuff." Hiromi sheepishly finishes.
It's funny because as I replied, My mind flew to Takashi-san. I like older men.
You can hear it in silence,
You can feel it on the way home,
You can see it w-
"Miss, your order for strawberry cheesecake" I unplugged my head phones before glaring at this, ugh, ugly waitress. She shrugs with her black eyes looking hastily at me. "Thanks, err-Mayumi Hana" I said reading her name tag. She hurriedly turned to her another colleague who was awfully cute,"Tomoe, I have a date with my fiance for the summer festival" She was cut off rudely as that Tomoe guy replied with a small nod before walking off. I giggled,"Hmm, so even ugly girls get to go on dates on summer festival" I muttered as I started eating.
"Takashi-san~" I squealed entering the salon in my cherry coloured yukata. He whistled before giving me that sweet smile of his. "You look beautiful, cherry" He stated as he guided me to sit. I felt my face burning. "You seem excited," Takashi-san twisted my hair as he spoke,"You youngsters have plans,I suppose". He grinned when I scowled at the word 'youngsters'. I nodded. He continued. I stared at his reflection, His brown skin was so flawless with his short dark hair and brown eyes. Ba-damp went my heart and this time I know why. "Do you have plans?". His eyes narrowed and his lips wore a small smile. Why is there light dancing in your eyes, Takashi-san? "Yes"...
The music plays itself loudly in the festival air, engrossed in the aroma of festive food, from grilled fish to candy apples. The laughter and the squealing of girls and boys either wearing yukatas or western clothes, decorate the stalls.
Giving suspicious glances at the candy apple, I turned my nose up against the helpless dogs asking me out even at the the night like this.
"How annoying." I snot as Hiromi and I waited in the cue for shaved ice-cream.
She giggles. "Well you do look pretty wearing a cherry colored yukata." She points at my hair tied up neatly in a bun and decorated with pink flowers. "Stunning." She whispers. I gave her a push, laughing.
"Someone looks like a cherry here." That warm voice which makes my eyes lighten up and my heart explode, belongs to Takashi.....
All handsome and elegant in grey black yukata. He smiles. Suddenly the festival seems more colorful now that he is here.
"Takashi, heyo." I smile, feeling the heat reaching my cheeks, I tighten my grip around my candy apple stick. "Are you alone?"
He laughs then I follow his gaze to a beach colored hand holding onto his arm....A girl from the ole hearts, Mayumi Hana, stares back at me. The next words of my stylist... causes me to excuse myself to the restroom.
His brown iris.
His perfect smile that makes my day.....
"Oh! She." He smiles at that girl and grabs onto her hand. "She is my fiancé."
You can hear it in the silence.
You can feel it on the way home.
You see it with the lights out..
...I was in love. As the fireworks decorates the night sky. With each explosion my heart feels like breaking into pieces.
Takashi was a night sky that decorated itself with fireworks. I only didn't realise that just like the fireworks, He was also fleeting. Absorbed by the hooting of the crowd. Their awe struck faces brings me back to my senses. I slowly make my way towards home.
I am so glad, I wore water proof mascara.
