Fire Of Caveat - Part 12

by Velantra
Bethal was surprised yet shaken about the phone call she just received: “So Barney and Alice are back in town. I wonder if they are here to stay, or for a visit?” Mister Johnathan was furious when he demanded Barney to leave town. Alice, Barneys wife, had a baby with Carlton, their youngest brother and Jolene, Carltons’ wife shot him, when she found out about it.
She shook her head: “Those were terrible, terrible days.”
Alice and Marlyn kept in contact. Even being sisters in law, they had a close bond. When Bethal cleaned the main bedroom after Mister Johnathan and Marlyn passed away she found the letters between them. It took her a whole year to decide whether or not she should contact Alice to inform her about their death. She was scared about the impact their return would have on the family.
She took a deep breath and sigh: “What is going to come out of all of this? Will it be the end of the Walsh empire or the beginning of a new era for them?”

~~~~~~~
Veronica is standing in the kitchen, looking at her mom, speaking on the phone. She seems upset, though she can see her mom is breathing heavily in and out, to compose herself.
Veronica bytes on her lip: “My mom is behaving strange for the past few weeks. What is wrong with her?”
Not even to speak about her dad. He is grumpy and short tempered. She gets the feeling he doesn’t even want to speak to her mom for some reason.
Her mom told her, she had something to speak to her about. “Is that the reason that there is this unpleasantness in their family?”
Gustav is sitting outside, puffing, puff-puff, on his pipe. He sits back, waiting for his pipe to cool down, so he can stop it with tobacco again.
His eyes scrutinise every detail in the manner the staff, is cleaning the cars. Moaning at the one then the other for not doing something the way he wants it done. He has been grumpy and in a bad mood for the last few weeks. He could not believe that the love of his life, had kept a secret from him all these years.
After every puff of his pipe he mumbles under his breath: “Marlyn’s cousin”. Shaking his head in disbelief. “So them being part of the will wasn’t just because they were working here, but also because Bethal was family.”
He knows his daughter is in love with that no good Carlton. That young man amounts to nothing, he doesn’t even know about his real mom and dad.
He mutters by himself: “Bad blood, that is what he has. Bad blood…” his mom’s family, they are up to no good. Just like their daughter Jolene. May the Gods be with them; she is coming out of jail soon.
“What will that dread full woman be up to then? She definitely would want something, that’s for sure…She will come here and demand her piece of pie and there is no way to stop her…….”
~~~
Marcha is standing in her room. She is watching through her window. Gustav is sitting outside, thinking he is the King of the Castle. He is watching over the workers. She is so irritated and frustrated. If the grumpy old bugger doesn’t leave and get busy somewhere else, she cannot phone for her regular taxi to come and fetch her. That would induce a million of questions she can’t answer, or rather shouldn’t answer.
Marcha utters a swear word: “Why can’t that worn out bat of a man just leave? “Aunt Jolene is going to kill me; it has been three days in a row that I wasn’t able to leave to visit her…….”

~~~
On the other side of town another woman is walking up and down in a small room. She could blow fire from anger. “Where is that child? Today is the third day, she is not pitching up, what is her problem? If she is starting to play some game now, she will regret it. You don’t mess with Jolene Walsh!” She punches with her fist into the wall.
The guard passing buy, looked at her: “Come on Jolene, it is only a few days, then you are a free woman. Don’t mess that up now. You need that nails and hands pretty when you leave here. You have to find a new husband.” She started laughing.
Jolene just stood there, looking at her. She would love to slap that smile of her skinny little face……. she turned around and fell on her bed.
“Will sleep come tonight? Or will the nightmares of sleepless nights with Carltons face visit her again?”
Next time: What is Nicholas up to with Ruth, fighting her cancer….
