Fire of Caveat - Part 10

by Velantra
Michelle pondered over where her brother went? He was very distressed about the call he received yesterday. He tried to compose himself, but she knows him to well. He was furious.
She was concerned, her brother share everything with her, she isn’t use to this peculiar behaviour of him.
Michelle shrugs her shoulders: “Well, I can’t concentrate on it now. Today is Monday and this is my special day….” She giggles happily. She walks into the lady’s powder room to fix her make up and make sure she looks the best she can. She looks at herself in the mirror. Her dark green eyes stare back at her: “What are you doing Michelle? Is it fair? no, Michelle, no….” She knows she must listen to her mind and reason, but her heart is in another place……
Nicholas is sitting behind his desk. He is staring outside the window into the distance without seeing anything. He sighs: “What am I going to do? I can lose my wife, my practise, my medical licence, my whole existence….” He looks at the photo on his table: his wife, Mavis; with her pale features. He sees a reflection of his office door in the glass on the frame: “Doctor N. Trollip: Psychiatrist.
At that moment there is a knock on his door. He looks up and smile, a spark in his eyes. “Michelle, please, do come in. You are a bit early today?” She smiled at him with starry bright eyes: “Does it bother you doctor Trollip?” He looked at her beautiful face. When she closed the door, he was already standing behind her. Looking down at her, moving closer caressing her lips, he softly whispers: “Not at all my love, not at all….”
Michelle’s medical appointment with her psychiatrist; who is supposed to help her managing her bipolar disorder; turned into an hour of passion and dreams about a life together, a long time ago.
The intercom on his table beeps. They both sigh, but he has to answer it: “Doctor, I am sorry to bother you, but your wife is here to see you, sir.” Nicholas looks at Michelle, shrugs his shoulders and tell his secretary to send her through.
She walks into his office with a cane in her hand. She has a lot of pain today. The cancer is eating her pancreas up today. In spite of that, she wanted to see her husband today. She wants him to take her for coffee….
She looks at Michelle, in disbelief: “Hey, I, hmmm, thought you would have completed your sessions…. treatments by now. I mean, it is almost ten years, that you see, Nicholas every week….” With a moment of hesitation, she adds: “still….” Michelle and Nicholas looked at each other: “Who and how long my patients need their treatment has nothing to do with you, Ruth. You aren’t complaining when you spend the money I make out of my practise….”
She looked at him emotionless: "I wanted us to go for some coffee….” She waved her one hand towards the table and sofa where Michelle was sitting. “Seeing that you and Michelle had lunch and coffee…...” She puts a lot of emphasis on saying: “……while being in a session.” “I would rather go home. I have a lot of pain today”.
“Then you shouldn’t even have come here.” She looked at him, emotionless: “Yes, I shouldn’t have. See you at home tonight.” Outside next to her car Ruth looked up at his offices. Her face turned pale, she felt sick. “Is he having an affair with that woman? Is she the next Mrs Trollip, if I die of this darn cancer?”
Nicholas didn’t even bother to see and make sure that Ruth left. He looked at Michelle: “I want to be in your arms on a beach somewhere now, right now. I want you….” Nicholas walked towards Michelle…….

So the circle is coming closer together, or are there more skeletons in the closet?
