The place of Haughmond Hill.
As I was reading through a fashion magazine my memories flooded back to my first family trip to Haughmond Hill located in Uffington.
It was the beginning of the long summer school holidays. It was only the first weekend of the first week of the summer holiday. At a semi detached house located in Shrewsbury, just on the outskirt of the Shrewsbury town centre, which was nonetheless the most tourist populated place especially during the summer months. No one can blame them seeing as it was filled with plenty of tourist attractions for tourists and things to do when staying over there for a holiday break. It was quite a stifling hot day on a Saturday mid way through the morning. Rachel, who was just seven years old then and both of her siblings called June and Leah were five. We spent almost the entire Saturday morning playing one of our all time favourite children games of Buckaroo. And Rachel ended up winning the game much to her delight. She had played the Buckaroo game a few times before whilst staying over one of her friends houses for tea. It was a Christmas present brought from her father, who knew how much Rachel wanted the game.
At around twelve o clock all of the Atkins family, apart from their father Jack who was doing a sorting post office shift, sat down at the mahogany antique style table. Their pristine magnolia painted dining room looked like something out of a home interiors magazine. Something always said by one of Rachel's friends whenever she came over to visit her friend Rachel occasionally. Whenever her long term partner Jim, could babysit their young kids during the weekend afternoons. They ate a delicious homemade lasagne for their lunch which their mother made for them earlier on in the morning. They all ate it up in huge appetite. After her kids had finished eating their meal she suggested that they go for a walk to Haughmond Hill. Being a nice day and seeing as later on in the morning her kids complained about getting bored. Leah, in particular absolutely loved going there as she would always collect the fallen pine cones coming from the pine trees. To decorate her bedroom. Which her dad thought was amusing.
So they all drove to Haughmond Hill and excitedly walked their way to the top slowly. Having a few breaks on the benches with the younger siblings getting tired at times from walking and to drink a little bit of their blackcurrant squash drink. As walking to the top of Haughmond hill was quite a long distance. Leah did her usual and collected some of the pine cones from below on the ground. And put them in her large coat pocket. Finally about forty five minutes later they had all reached the top of Haughmond hill and sat down on the large crag rocks fairly near to the edge. Even though Rachel kept a close on them and warned them not to go too close to the edge of the Hill. Rachel brought her silver Kodak camera with her in her rucksack bag and took a couple of good pictures of the view below. So she thought that the view below the hill was so magnificent.
They all knew after driving back home that they would go to Haughmond hill many more times to visit. And take tons more pictures.
