Diary (Day 1, 2)

by Lorenzo A. Fernandez Jr.
Day 1

This morning around 4 o’clock, I accompanied my daughter Odessa to the Cabanatuan Central Terminal. She’ll go to Manila and stay at the apartment where she, together with some classmates, stays in preparation for taking the nursing board exam. We waited for about 20 minutes at the terminal and when her 3 classmates arrived, my son Jullian and I started to go back home.

Day 2

Yesterday, around 10 p.m. she arrived home. I was sleeping at the time. After a few minutes I woke up and asked her if she bought some doughnuts and she said yes. Hungry, I took a piece and ate it.

I have just written this second paragraph and it’s already 5 o’clock in the morning. It’s raining very lightly. I wonder why it is raining this December. This month should only be cold and no more rains.

I am writing. I just can’t help it. I have drunk my coffee and it perks me up a little. Writing is also my coffee. Not only that. It’s my meat, my wine, my exercise, my bed, my shelter . . . everything to me.

At 7 a.m., I noticed that the faucet outside the back door was open. Water might be probably dripping overnight. There was a bucketful of washed clothes beside it. The amount of wasted water must be about 5 to 10 day consumption, according to my estimate.
