You always know when Christmas is just approaching around the corner. One evening you will be sitting down on the sofa watching some television breaks in between programmes, after having possibly a long tiring day at work. Like most of us do. Before you know it the tv breaks are bombarded with Christmas adverts. To be honest Christmas tv adverts can get rather tiresome after a while. Before you know it the late night Christmas shopping starts in late November. Much to peoples delight or dismay. All the shopping centres and shops in your local town start playing out loud Christmas music. Christmas classics such as Walking in the air from the Snowman film and Winter wonderland. Intending to create the perfect Christmas festival atmopshere for their customers.
It was definitely starting to be the time of the year for all of the Atkinsons family to bring on the Christmas festival mood in their household. At 100 Lipton Road located in the suburban area of a small town called Lipton, all the Atkinsons family were starting slowly to get ready for Christmas. It was a few weeks away, they had still plenty of time left. It was a cold sunny day at the beginning of December in 1991. A typical day in early December. Today was the first of December. The first day of the Advent calendar. Both of their children bought a chocolate Advent Christmas calendar each with their dads well earned pocket money on Saturdays. Earned both from their homework efforts and household chores each week.
It was going to be the Atkinsons families first ever Christmas living in their first Georgian little house in the suburban area of Lipton. They had moved from a large city of London just in the early summer this year. They loved living in Lipton. They called it an absolutely delightful town. While both of their children Sarah and Daniel were at school, their mother decided to put up all their Christmas fibre optic tree and Christmas decorations around their house. So she tuned on the local radio and listened to classic Christmas songs whilst putting up all the sparkly decorations in their living room. The living room looked fantastic when she finished. She always loved fibre optic Christmas trees. Watching each Christmas tree branch slowly changing colours was delightful.
In the early afternoon Mrs Atkinson decided to start on a little of the Christmas gift shopping. She knew what both of her children wanted for Christmas from reading their written lists last night. She was a well organised individual and never left buying the Christmas presents at the last moment. Meaning no rush and really long queues. She was unsure what to buy their father though. She always found it pretty difficult each year though.
Later on this Wednesday evening her youngest son Daniel who was in the last year of Primary school; was taking part in the schools Christmas choir. He sang the Christmas songs so brilliantly. Even his eldest sister Sarah thought so.
Before they knew it, it was the beginning of the Christmas school holidays. They were all looking forward for Christmas day to come. This year they had arranged to go to spend both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day over at their aunt Lucys house over in Minsterley. The Atkinsons always looked forward to visiting aunt Lucy. She was such great entertaining company to them and a fantastic cook who made a mouthwatering homemade mince pies and Christmas traditional pudding.
So on early Christmas Eve day the whole family packed their suitcases and drove off in their dads car to Minsterley. That evening they watched one of their favourite Christmas films together. Whilst both of their parents wrapped up all their presents to place underneath the Christmas tree for the next morning. The next day the children excitedly unwrapped their presents slowly. And thanked both of their parents. Christmas dinner was so fantastic and tasty to Lucy and the family. They stayed at Lucys grand mansion until around three o clock. They felt a little sad on leaving Lucys mansion but absolutely enjoyed spending their Christmas Eve and Christmas day there. They promised to go there maybe next Christmas. Who knew.
