They were five in cell no. 1: Terry the youngest guy, but not proud to be thirty-eight years old; Ben, the oldest and the biggest bald man, the only one allowed to bring personal things like cabinet, wallpapers and tissues; Ralph, the reddish guy (Liza the prison guard calls him Alberto as he reminds him the face of her drunkard husband); Nick the shy guy with tattoo all over his head, even on the tongue; Mike the slightly gay man, he revealed his gender the day he entered the cell, but until today he looks and acts like a real man; and Boss the self-proclaimed genius, although he never finished college, he finished a sudoku puzzle (fifty rows, fifty columns) on a wall and got a national award.
"The more you accept your death," Boss said, standing up. "The lesser the pain you'll feel during the electrocution. That's why we as your friends for twenty years had a meeting yesterday. We concluded the meeting with a perfect idea to make you feel better - Verbal Liberation Circle Diffusion Zero Point One."
Ben jumped down from his bed. "Jeez, what does that mean?"
"Verbal Liberation Circle Diffusion Zero Point One? You don't know that? It's a simple term, even a two-year-old kid could understand."
"My God. What does Verbal blah blah blah One means?"
"Verbal Liberation Circle Diffusion Zero Point One, is, in short, means - talking."
"My God. Jezz. Why the hell you have to make simple word complicated, a simple idea complicated? To win an award?"
Liza burst in. Ben and Boss jumped back on their bed.
"The Electrocution will be on two-thirty," Liza said. "It's now one-thirty, so Terry and Ben - hey look at me - Terry and Ben, you only have one hour to prepare."
Ben jumped out of his bed again. "You said three in the afternoon?"
"Yeah, I'm sorry for that. I forgot that before you die, there will be a family speech and prayer and all that dramatic and boring scenes. Now back to you bed, Ben. God don't want to see you disobey me in your last hour."
Ben went back to his bed. Before Liza walked out, he asked, "Terry's family will be here, aren't they?"
Liza looked at all of them, one by one. Everyone was surprised when a tear fell down her cheeks down to her neck. She had never been so dramatic before. As she closed the bar, she said: "I'll miss the two of you, losers."
It breathed.
I didn't know where it came from, but it was colder than the night I was in and heavier than the backpack hanging on my back....
Mothers, of all creeping creatures of the earth, should know all about their territory.
My mother? No thanks....
One mistake can lead to more mistakes. Jake stole some of his father's money. And the chain of mishaps began.
A precious story of two brothers facing the greatest tradegy of their lives.
It is always easy to say
If someone’s pretending
If someone’s faking...
An unknown story in a place where every person needs to cross a deadly bridge everyday.
