This is Not Me

by Slave Prince
It is always easy to say
If someone’s pretending
If someone’s faking
But why can’t I say it to myself?

It is easy to be trapped
To play in someone’s game
To live in someone’s standards
When can I be myself?

I grew up believing “Just be yourself”
“Honesty is the best policy”
“The truth will set you free”
Who am I now?

This is not me
The “me” my parents treasured
The “me” my friends adored
The “me” I loved and valued

This is a sad and messy world
For us who don’t know ourselves
I can’t wait for the day my soul is free
The day I can finally say: “This is me”
Let others and the author know if you liked it

Liked it alot?
