The power of words

by purpletears
As soon as he checked his email, the elderly man got a message that just said: "You will regret having killed Amaya” Yes, it sounded scary, but Arthur just chuckled at the sight of those words. Being a very popular author, he was more than used to getting that kind of threats from die-hard fanatics of his work. So, he just deleted that email without giving it a second thought. Why should he be worried about it? Those fanboys and fangirls always get too attached to fictional characters, to the extent of feeling like they are in a real relationship with them…
However, in the afternoon, when Arthur was about to turn off his computer, he got another message that said “I told you are going to REALLY regret it”. Before the elderly man had a chance to see if those emails were sent from any familiar email address, perhaps for a “friend” trying to pull a joke on him, the temperature suddenly dropped it the room.
A loud beep came out from the speakers of the computer, as a gruesome image of a devil displayed on the screen. Arthur´s heart began beating like crazy, leaving him unable to run away…
. There was no time to fight against fate or to ask for forgiveness... It just happened with no alarms or gruesome violence, only a little noise, and the writer was gone, leaving behind no traces of his departure, as if he had just went for a walk.
Most think that the elderly writer just got tired of his busy life, and just decided to run away and start to lead a quieter existence, far away from the blinding lights of the city. But the only one that knows the truth is his empty chair, silent witness of the fate of a man who never understood the power of words.
