The Donkey and the Horse

by bluesky

A
farmer had a donkey and a horse in his house. The farmer was hard-working,
so every day he went to the field, or the forest, or to the market, where he
had business to do. He also worked in his neighborhood. The horse and the
donkey were accompanying him wherever he went. Together they were carrying
the wood or the stone from the field or the river.

One
day, the donkey felt tired. Therefore, he told to his friend - hey, you are stronger, so please, take some load off my back, to relieve some
of my burden, as I feel tired. But the horse turned his back and did not want
to help the donkey. The poor donkey felt more and more tired with weak
eyes. One day, it fell dead under the weight of its burden.

The
farmer was tough. But now it was too late and there was nothing more he
could do. So he took the load from the donkey's back and put it on the
back of the horse. The horse was now carrying both its burden as well as
that of the donkey. The farmer leaves the dead donkey there itself and leaves
the place with the horse.

The
horse, hard pressed by the burden of loads, said, Oh… that's what I need,
because I do not want to take the little burden off my friend’s back. He
died off that load, and now I must carry his entire load. Now, the farmer too
sat on its back to return home.

Moral of the story: By
helping others, you help yourself.
