My January 1

by Sivaranjini Senthilvel

Day 1 was nothing more to me than a free trial for the year 2019. Made all mistakes, broke all resolutions, and then convinced myself that I’m in the learning phase and it’s all part of the game.

You know what? I really like Thomas Alva Edison. (Not because of his light bulb. I intentionally came to this planet after he passed away so that the poor lad could enjoy some limelight. Of course, Neil deGrasse Tyson is so upset that I’m going to soon steal all the glory he’s basking in.) Now coming back to Edison, I like him for a different reason. You see, the guy seems to have an explanation for all my actions, even before I do. He said, “I haven’t failed. I have found 10000 ways that won’t work”. His ways are my days. I saw this quote when I was 16 and it’s only been 5 years now. I still have approximately 22 years to run out of 10000 days. But I guess, I’ll find another quote from some other pal before that.

So, this is what my Jan 1 was: spent the 24 hours moving from one failure to another without loss of enthusiasm. Because that’s what success is, says Winston Churchill. Good fellows, they all, you know… Don’t seem to find such good peeps nowadays. Guess it’s just me. Sad.

Let others and the author know if you liked it

Liked it alot?
