Coming home
after a long day of inhumane drudgery
I anticipate
the wild taps of little feet
running towards the door
Complete with today's stories
of how the dog
ate today's broccoli
without mum knowing
or tomorrow's plans
including how he needs
a small nuclear reactor
for their moon rocket
But I am met with silence
oh my one fear
of silence
in the world of welcomed noise
Kael?
I shout
Kael? Tatay is here.
Still, there is nothing but silence
There should be shouting
anytime from now
And I would act surprised
then we would tumble down
play wrestle the bear
and laugh the rest of the day off
But I enter the home in a complete lull
My heart is beating
like a little boy's toy drums
after a whole bar of chocolate
What would life be without
the one reason you are alive?
how good will the mornings be
without the sunshine that fills it with glee
Just as I was about
to settle down and introspect
I hear a familiar voice from outside
My heart skips a beat
But slowly, a smile is drawn
on a face that seemed
to have been beaten by life
With the sound of him
opening the front door
I take a deep breath and think
Tomorrow is not that bad
Not when I have him by my side

August 2, 2015 - 14:45 Wow... My heart aches, and my tears almost fall. So I'm very relieved when I read the last part. God, that almost gave me a heart attack! But seriously, its a job well done. I really enjoyed the way you wrote the words and translate in a verse, and make it a story... I'm very impressed, indeed...koyaai
August 2, 2015 - 14:52 It's actually based on a true story. I kinda forgot that my little boy liked to play around with the kids next door and I was a bit early from work. But the fear is real. It starts to hit you the moment they start walking because there's not going back from that point on. Before you know it, they are saying goodbye for college. lol I'm feeling old already. hahabestdianneever
