Gym or Sport for Weight Loss: Which is Effective?

by Andrew Leodan
Sporting and exercise is important in helping reduce the risk of developing heart related diseases while at the same time also keeps your blood sugar level at bay. However, many people who have paid bucks for gym membership to lift weights and to get on a treadmill are not getting the results they want. First, there are many things that can be done aside from going to the gym which will make you lose weight. And this is where sporting comes in play. Taking part in your favorite sport is more beneficial for weight loss than you may think. Going to the gym and taking part in a sporting activity both involve some form of physical intensity which increases the heartbeat rate and also uses a lot of energy therefore means you burn calories. High intensity sports will help you burn more calories while still having a good time. What about the gym? The gym is a nice place to help you get fit under a professional trainer or just by yourself. But it has a lot more effects that may not necessarily help you lose weight, ranging from psychological, emotional and body matters.
Why you should choose sport over the gym
It does not matter what your favorite sport is, the most important thing is to get your heart running and having a higher level of intensity during play. The harder you play, the more calories you will burn and as a result lose weight. You can also lose weight significantly by following effective diet plans and still exercise your muscles. Playing a high intensity game such as baseball for about 20 minutes each day for about three days in a week will prove to be magical. It has been shown that overweight men who follow this regime could have up to a 7% reduction in weight and body fat. This is the same for women aged 30 to 45, who take part in some form of high or moderate intensity sport or exercise.
On the other hand, the gym has its perks in helping one get fit. The gym requires a lot of dedication and commitment which for many people it’s just another bugging issue or form of routine. This has been shown to have a psychological layout which can inhibit your progress for weight loss. A proper mindset is important and crucial for a successful weight loss ordeal, whereby it allows your body to function harmoniously with your hormones. Also, or most likely, those who enroll and pay for gym memberships are not really looking to lose weight, or this ‘brilliant idea’ came from a friend. A study has shown that it is also very common to accentuate your cravings and overeating immediately after gym sessions. This is done as a way of replacing the already used up calories during the workout. In the overall, you end up derailing all the efforts that you put initially when deciding to lose weight.
The good thing about sport is, you do what you love and in the end you improve your health by burning calories, losing fat and reducing the risk of getting heart related diseases. So it is a win-win situation.
