Fetus

They are in a park .Sheena is sitting in one the benches, looking at the people passing by. With her is Alex, her boyfriend of how many years, also sits beside her. Tears cannot stop flowing on Sheena’s eyes.

“Alex I’m scared” Sheena said to Alex, who is also intense at that moment.

Both will be graduating as Nurse next year. Some people on their shoes will supposed to be happy now that after years of struggles to finish the said course, and after years both their parents’ many sacrifices for the sake that after graduation, bigger future will be ahead of them. But to Sheena and Alex, it seems another major problem is facing them.

“Relax babe, inside of your body is not yet form. It is still only a mass of water” Alex’s assurance to Sheena.

“You don’t understand Alex, my parents are going to kill me if they find out” Sheena answered Alex tearfully.

“Then before it‘s too late, let’s find now an abortionist, that is the only way now Sheena, or we suffer the consequence”.

“No Alex, I can’t do that, doing that is also murdering an innocent person. How could you ever think such things like that”?

“Then what are we going to do Sheena, besides, I am not yet ready to be a father. I know also you are not yet ready to face responsibilities when that thing comes out”.

Sheena began to cry loudly. She doesn’t care if there are many people in the park, looking at her, or to them. At this moment, she was so confused.

“Sheena, let’s do it, no more second thoughts, lets abort it”.

He doesn’t show it to Sheena, but Alex is also intense and scared. He can’t believe this happened unexpectedly. His parents also have high expectations on him. Alex’s family is not rich. Being the eldest in the brood of 4, he is destined to be his family’s breadwinner. Ever since as a child, he aspires to help his family by finishing his Nursing school and to work abroad for his family. Same with Sheena, she wants to work abroad to help her family. But unlike Alex, she is the only child in the family.

“For the meantime, I’m giving you enough time to think it over Sheena; I know I can’t persuade you. You must not forget Sheena; our future is now with us. We will be graduating next year, can you imagine that”

Alex hugs Sheena tightly. Sheena responds by lying on his left shoulder, speechless.

“I love you Babe, I really really love you. Don’t worry; our plans for our future before. It remains with us. But what we have to do right now is to get rid of that baby”.

That night, Sheena cannot sleep. Her mind is torturing her if she follows what they have plan with Alex. Her conscience keep on saying to her she will be murderer for the rest of her life. Then she notices a rosary under her pillow, in which some kind soul gave her. She grabs it. She prayed so hard like she called almost all the saints in heaven. Then suddenly, her cellphone rings. A female classmate is calling her.

“Hello Sheena, are you still awake, sorry if I disturb you, but I really need to talk to you right now, Sheena, it’s an emergency. I have a problem”.

The voice on the other line seems frantic and hardly speaks a word. It’s Jessica, her best friend in school.

‘What is it, Jessica, are you okay”

“I am not okay, I am dying right now, and I drank an insect pesticide. Help me Sheena, I now regretted of doing it. I’m getting weaker and weaker, help me”

“What”, Sheena can’t believe what her best friend is going through. She immediately gets up and changes her clothes.

Thankfully, Jessica survived her suicide attempt. She is now in intensive care unit under the state of coma. Sheena later learned that Jessica is pregnant with a boyfriend who won’t take the responsibility. Worse, he insists that he is not the father. Just like Sheena and Alex, Jessica is also graduating from Nurse. Observing her friend who is unconscious, Sheena sobs so hard. It is not because they share the same fate with Jessica. She is crying because she now realizes how important life is in each individual. She now believes life is more precious than anything else in this world. Like the doctors and nurses whose duty everyday was saving lives like the case of Jessica.

She has made up her mind. She will never abort the baby. She doesn’t care anymore if she graduate or not, Alex will agree or not, or her parents disapprove or not. She doesn’t care either if Alex will still love her or leave her with her decision. There is someone whom she should be feared of than anyone. It is God.
