How was school, Chey?” Katessia asked.
“Everything was just fine but the lessons were boring.”
“What a day? Oh, I had forgotten. I received a letter for you from Europe.”
“What?” Cheyenne asked surprised.
“Don’t you think it’s from Elsie?”
“I’m not sure,” replied Cheyenne. “Let me see it.”
“Okay. I’ll get if for you.” Katessia went into her spare room and brought the letter to Cheyenne. It had a European stamp and Cheyenne knew it had come from Elsie. Her heart beat pounded as she opened the letter.
“Who is it from? Is it bad or good news?”
“It’s from Elsie. Let me read it first.” Cheyenne said.
It read:
Dear lovely child,
Years are multiplying and it seems as if I am not going to see you again. I can no longer walk on my own and I can no longer eat or write. This letter, I managed to use a computer so that you should know. I am dying slowly and I wish you could come to see me for the last time. I cannot eat Cheyenne, and I am getting thinner and worn out. I am sorry for telling you this, building this burden on you for you are still young but you are the only relative I have. I never told you but Rose and her husband turned against me, a long time ago. I am suffering my child. I am going to leave you on this earth but please do not turn against you r aunt. Be good to her and listen to what she says. Never ever, create misunderstandings with her. I do not think she will allow you to come and see me. Maybe you can just write to me. At least, I will die happy. I love you Cheyenne. We will meet in the afterlife but please stay well and take care of yourself.
Your lovely mother,
Elsie.
Cheyenne had already burst into tears when she had read the first line. Her vision was blurred. She could feel the grief inside Elsie’s heart when she had wrote the letter. Why is that, she no longer talked with Rose? What was the beef between the two?
“What’s wrong Cheyenne?” Katessia asked. Cheyenne did not reply. Her mind was already occupied somewhere. “Cheyenne?” Katessia shook her.
“Elsie is sick. She wrote that she is dying.” Her voice was full of pain. “She is dying Katessia and what am I going to do?” she cried.
“I’m sorry Chey. Everything will be okay. You don’t have to worry about this. It is her destiny.”
“Her destiny?” Cheyenne shook her head. “No! She just can’t die a painful death like that...”
“There is nothing you are going to do about her health Cheyenne.”
“I’m going to see her. I’m going to Tel Aviv tomorrow.”
“I know it’s painful.” Katessia said. “But she is going to die a peaceful death and you have to move on with your life.”
“No!” Chey screamed. “You don’t understand Katessia. She is my mother... I love her. You get that?”
“Mm,” Katessia shrugged. “Then do what you feel like doing Cheyenne.”
“You just don’t know...” Cheyenne murmured to herself. Katessia walked away leaving her in tears. Cheyenne ran to Rose’s room. She reached the room and she did not bother to knock, instead she just entered. Rose was startled for she was already in dreamland.
“What’s wrong with you? You can’t just get in here without knocking. I think you know that.” Rose said angrily. Cheyenne did not say anything. More tears came out of her eyes, flowing down her cheeks, rapidly.
“What’s the matter Cheyenne?” Rose asked.
“Elsie wrote me this letter,” she handed it to Rose.
“What? Elsie?” Rose asked shocked. “Give it to me.” She snapped the letter from Cheyenne.
“What are we going to do, aunt? She is sick and she is dying.” Rose read the letter silently and after she was done, she sighed heavily.
“Oh my God! Elsie told you that we were no longer on good terms?”
“Yes,” Cheyenne replied. “and I want to know why.”
“Oh!” Rose looked surprised. “It doesn’t have anything to do with you, so starting from today do not ask me that question again. Is that clear?”
“I don’t understand...” Cheyenne murmured.
“You have to... just let her die a peaceful death.”
“I cannot do that aunt. She is my mother. I have to go and see her.”
“You are not going anywhere Cheyenne.” Rose said.
“Why?” Cheyenne asked angrily. “Why won’t you let me go and see the person who raised me from my childhood?”
“I raised you!”
“No! I want to see her.”
“No more complaining. You are not going anywhere. Go to your room and attend to your books and assignments. Tomorrow is a school day.” Rose said, turning away from Cheyenne. Cheyenne became worse. She cried with anger and pain. She did not understand why her aunt was being cruel to her. Her legs, arms and lips were shaking with fury. She bit her lower lip hard and made her trembling hands into fists.
“Why are you still standing there? I think you heard me right.” said Rose.
Cheyenne went out of her aunt’s room running downstairs and when she crossed the dining hall, Jaden caught a glance of her and he followed her, calling her name but she did not turn back. She continued running and Jaden became confused. He decided to let her be but deep down; he was very troubled for he liked her very much. As Cheyenne continued running, the truth was she did not know where she was going. She did not even recognize the roads she was crossing. She just kept on running. Her mind was reeling and her body was growing weaker but she forced herself and continued to run. Just as she crossed the busy road of the first street in her district the robot had already flashed red. Someone just called from a distant, “Tell that young lady to be careful.” But to Cheyenne, they were just echoes. She felt like she was dreaming and drowning at the same time. Then she heard an outburst of cars hooting behind her. She turned only to find out that from both sides, they were cars coming towards her in full speed. She was in shock and she couldn’t move. Just as she closed her eyes tightly, someone grabbed her outside the road. She heard a familiar voice.
“Cheyenne! Do you want to die? What’s wrong with you, Chey? Don’t act this foolish again. You hear me?” said the concerned familiar voice. She opened her eyes only to find out Palma Montagu holding her. She flinched and her heart pumped faster than usual. Was she dreaming? She closed her eyes again and opened them. It was him.... at last!
“What were you doing? You could have died.” He said in a low frightened voice.
“Palma...” she said in a low voice and she closed her eyes again tiredly.

Thirty minutes later after Rose had slept for a while; she woke up and changed her clothes, adjusted her makeup and took her bag ready to go back to work. She went through the dining room only to find out Jaden and Katessia sitting, watching television.
“Where is Cheyenne?” Rose asked.
“I don’t know where she was going. She just ran away.” replied Jaden.
“Oh God,” Rose was shocked. “That poor child. Where did she think she was going?”
“She was devastated about Elsie’s health. Why don’t you let her go to see Elsie?” Katessia asked.
“No, she is not going anywhere.” Rose said calmly.
“But leaving her acting like that? I don’t think it makes sense.” said Jaden.
“You,” Rose pointed a finger at Jaden. “Stay out of this. Okay?” Jaden looked at his mother and remained silent. “Katessia go and look for that poor girl.”
“Oh! I don’t know where I am going to find her. This is ridiculous aunt. I don’t even know where she went.” Katessia complained.
“Call her please.” Rose demanded.
“She left her phone. What can we do?”
“Oh my God! I’m going crazy. You just go find her. I’m going to work.” Katessia just nodded but wasn’t even sure where she was going to look for Cheyenne. She made sure that Rose had left and decided to go and look for Cheyenne.
“And you are going to leave me alone?” Jaden asked Katessia.
“Yes. What do you want me to do?”
“Can I come with you? Please...” Jaden pleaded.
“You are not coming with me anywhere Jaden. Stay here and don’t go anywhere.”
“I can be on my own then.” said Jaden lowly.
“Be careful and don’t do anything silly, okay?”
“Okay.”
Katessia walked out of the room. She walked fast and ignored her protesting mind. She wasn’t even sure if she still wanted to stay with Rose and Jake. Rose had become boring every time she saw her. She was now feeling more special and wanted than her. She had lost her morals as a woman and was beginning to turn against Rose slowly. No one really knew her inner side, deep down her. Rose was blinded. Cheyenne and Jaden were not even going to discover her disgraceful works. She was a snake eating her master’s eggs. It was still her inner secret but that secret was going to protrude into clarity little by little. She knew that if Rose was going to know it she was going to die of shock, of a heart attack. She had once believed that everything was going to be fine on her side, but she never thought of the doomsday when her most inner secret was going to be a scandal in the whole town and isle of Hiroshima. She wasn’t going to love any bit of her works.
