Baaba; Chapter 3

by safohen
‘It was another hellish morning of asafo fighting kakai, the next day. A particularly skilled kakai had beaten most of the asafo of the 1st Asafo Company on its own. Now it turned its attention to Baaba and darted towards her. She let loose three arrows at the fast approaching kakai but watched in horror as it simply slashed them with its claws.!

Without breaking it’s stride, it stretched out it’s right hand and released 15 long, steel needles from it’s palm. Baaba tried to dodge them all but 5 of them buried themselves deep in the hand that held her bow.

She gasped in pain, stumbling back. As it drew nearer, she pushed the pain aside and released 5 arrows at the kakai, forcing it to dodge to the right into the bushes. let off a volley of twenty steel needles.

Baaba evaded them all, unsheathed her akofena and leapt at it. The kakai drew out two steel blades to block the attack but the akofena slashed through its blades and split the kakai into two from head to toe.

As it disintegrated in a cloud of dust, Baaba sensed rather than saw ten steel needles hurtling towards her and strafed to her right. She sunk into an offensive stance as the shooter charged at her.

She sidestepped its claws, and slashed it's back.Enraged, it slashed wildly at her, each swing missing as she sidestepped it . She slashed twice, one swing taking off its arms, the other taking off its head.

Meanwhile, Kuukua swung her afena (longsword) to deflect a serrated spear to her left, hurled at her by a large kakai and shifted to the right and flung it at the kakai's head, banishing it instantly.

A kakai burst through the bushes behind her, attacking with a volley of steel needles from it’s right and left palms but she simply spun around, slashed through the projectiles and stabbed it in the belly with her back turned to it, banishing it

The other asafo flung their spears into several kakai, banishing them. The rest were pummeled with several arrows, spears, machetes, akofenas and afowatsenas wielded by the asafo. After sealing off the riverside with the striped akofena , orders were soon given to tend to the wounded.

Baaba approached Kuukua with a bandaged arm. 'Finished the first transdimensional device. The second one is a bit more tricky, considering that its a sword version of the larger one, but I should be done by midnight,

'You're wounded, Kuukua. Don't stretch yourself too thin' Kuukua warned.

'I'll be fine' shrugged Baaba. 'It's just a scratch.'
