Mawuli ne kwan (Mawuli's path)

by safohen
In a quiet suburb of Accra, a tall dark man in a white suit walked away from the row of houses to the bus station. Once there, he boarded the bus and sat next to a woman, also in a white suit. This would have been a normal occurrence anywhere except that the man , named Mawuli, was the enforcer for )w), the last criminal organisation in Ghana.

The woman's identity was even more unusual. She was the new head of security for the organisation but in reality, she worked for Afena, the nation's largest law enforcement agency. Mawuli was more or less her informant.

It had all began one hot Monday evening at a private clinic. His sister had been involved in a car accident and he did not have the money to pay for surgery. Desperate, he had sought out a high ranking member of )w), agreeing to be an enforcer in exchange for )w) covering her medical expenses.

For 30 days he had helped )w) claim new territory and funded his sister's tertiary education with ease. However he had known that members of )w) were not above killing their own to advance in rank. After witnessing an "accident' involving high ranking )w) members, he had decided to work for Afena.

The bus stopped and both of them got off and walked for an hour to the headquarters of )w). He listened to the mpaninfo (elders) talk of making a deal with Afena in exchange for reduced jail time. When Afena stormed the building, he offered no resistance as they cuffed him and led him and several others to a bunker.

He waited patiently as Bonsu missiles exploded above them. When the explosions stopped, he and several others were bundled into a bus that drove past the prisons, stopping in front of a large spacecraft. The criminals disembarked and once they were strapped in, the spacecraft shot off towards the cold, nether regions of space.
