Akyeaa: Chapter 12

by safohen
'So how are we going to find Ekuaba and kill her?' asked Fosuaa as the two women left the village.

'We go back to where we last saw her.' replied Akyeaa. 'Maybe she'll leave a trail we can follow and then', she eyed the ekumapraban she had bought from the gift shop,'I'll cut her down to size'.

'Is that so?' chuckled a familiar voice. The sankofa bird dove down and hid behind Akyeaa as Ekuaba stepped out from the shadows of the trees.

'I'm only passing through' she smiled as the two sunk into defensive stances. 'There's no need for violence.'

'I've read your legends' said Akyeaa. 'Even before you began searching for eternal life, you killed several people. There's no telling what you'll do if you become immortal.'

'Its in my nature to kill people' Ekuaba remarked. 'That's how my maker fashioned me. The woman who carved me out of a block of wood and made me a doll. The 'priestess' who handed me over to the childless couple so many years ago. I can't fight it and I don't want to. This is a big country, so what's the harm if a few thousand people die?'

'Enough!' Akyeaa roared as she swung her ekumapraban at Ekuaba's head. The axeheads cut through a few inches of her skull and went no further.

'That should have had no effect at all' Ekuaba frowned to herself. 'The doll transformation is faster than I expected. I shouldn't waste any more time with this fool'.

Before Akyeaa could defend herself, she wrenched the axeheads from the handles and jammed them into Akyeaa's belly. Akyeaa stumbled backwards, as blood poured from her wound. Fosuaa rushed to her side, yanking the axeheads out of her belly and wrapping her suit around her belly.

As Ekuaba left as quietly as she came, Akyeaa fell to the ground. She felt her five senses failing her and a disturbing numbness spreading through her limbs. Fosuaa was yelling at her but she could no longer hear her. She felt anger, for being beaten twice by the same foe. Then she felt despair, because she was not ready to die. Not like this.

Suddenly Akyeaa felt nothing at all as an alien darkness enveloped her.
