I woke up...my head is hurting terribly. When I open my eyes, I was in a small shabby room. The walls are bare, no paintings, not even clock to show me what time it is. No picture frames...I could not guess who owns this room I woke up to. The only furniture I happen to see is the small worn out table next to my bed and a single candle flickering and lighting the whole room.
I was about to stand up when the door opens.
"You are awake..." more of a statement than a question. An old bearded man stood smiling at me from the doorway and walked in.
"Who are you? Where am I?" I asked in confusion.
The old man just smiled and look at me with a kind, wise eyes. Those kind of eyes that that had seem to watch and know all the hardships of life.
"Child, the answer to your first question does'nt really matter. I have tried my best to do what a good samaritan should do when I found you lying unconscious on the road."
"What about my second question?" I persisted still despite the throbbing in my head.
"You'll know the answer to that one when the right time comes. In the meantime, just take a rest and try to regain your strength. You should be strong enough to face reality."
I frown..the old man speaks in a puzzle and I feel a little bit chilly.
"I will be gone for a couple days..and please don't open that door if you are not yet ready to face the reality," he said while watching my reaction.
"What are you talking about? You're confusing me!" I said to him, an accusatory note in my voice.
"You'll know...when I come back, you should be ready."
And before I could start protesting from his words, he turned and immediately head for the door before pausing to remind me once more. "Do not open the door Remy unless you are ready to face reality."
And he's gone.
After a few days of "resting" and regaining strength if that's what you call that by lying in bed for hours and stretching for some minutes, contemplating the past events.
I remember the day before this accident happened, me and my boyfriend had been enjoying the time of our life racing with each other in our own sport car. We always do this every weekend for fun and to unwind, forget the hassle of college life for a while.
Just then, an unfortunate thing happened. I was trying to out-maneuver him when I saw a young boy crossing the lane I was driving thru. So I try to swerve my gear to the opposite direction shen a loud honking cause me to look up with alarm. And there I saw a ten-wheeler truck making its way towards direction at such speed. It seemed the truck has damaged its brakes or did'nt saw my car approaching.
And the last thing I saw is the giant truck that was about to collide through me and the last sound I heard was my boyfriend's panicked cries, calling out my name in vain.
Then I woke up here, in this strange room and with a strange old man speaking in strange manner.
I winced as my head throbs again. Maybe the pressure of too much thinking made it throb.I felt
my head and was surprised to touch no bandages. Weird, I thought. I almost got smashed and crushed by a ten-wheeler truck and still got no serious damage. The old man must be one hell of a doctor to cure me so well.
And true to his words, the old man returned. He looks at me with appraising eyes as if gauging my strength to face what his " mysterious reality" is speaking of.
"Ready Remy?" he asked me. I still feel it strange to hear him call me by my name. I had just met him a few days ago, but he speaks my name as if he had known me all his life.
I take a deep breath before replying " I' m ready."
So we walk towards that mysterious door he'd been restricting me to open in the past previous days.
He look at me gravely and said in a dead-serious voice that sends shivers down my spine.
"Remember Remy, when you walk inside this door, no matter what you might discover, there is no turning back. That world out there, it's the reality. It's your reality."
I nodded, at a loss for words to say for I really had no idea what he's talking about or if he's only playing tricks on me.
I open the door...and a blinding light halted me for a moment. When my eyes grew accustomed to the bright light, I saw my mom and dad sitting in a bench. My mom were crying and dad is trying to comfort her.
"Dad!Mom! I'm here!"
I run towards them but their attention is locked in a casket before them. As I made my way towards them, my boyfriend arrives and go directly to my parents.
I stand there, in the middle of the room - unnoticed. Why don't they realize I'm here! I thought despairingly. They just keep crying over that casket..god knows who lies there!
I strode towards them, ready to make my presence known when I saw whose body lying inside the casket.
It was mine.....!
