Slackers (working title)
Chapter 1
Jessie at the club
Have you ever met a person you wanted to punch? Was that person you wanted to punch close to you in any way? For me, Mike, was that guy. Unfortunately for me, Mike is my best friend, but he is a dick sometimes. I’ve known him my entire life and he was always the loudest and he always got the girls. I didn’t mind it much. I would find it annoying when he would try to push the girls he liked onto me. Mike had one type, bimbo airhead, preferably drunk. But, this time Mike went too far. We were at this club one of his bimbo friends suggested. I was sitting at the bar chatting it up with this cute girl. We were hitting it off and we were about to exchange numbers when Mike interrupted us, quite rudely.
“Bro! I got these chicks here and they are ready to go back to our house!”
“I’m kinda busy right now dude.” I said, nodding to the girl I was talking to. I wanted to get Mike away from me, but he wasn’t getting the point.
“What are you talking about? You’re with her?” Mike pointed to the girl I was talking to “Dude, she looks like a man.”
The most I could do was face palm, because I knew things were about to get worse.
“Excuse me?” The woman said, standing up from the bar.
“Please don’t mind him. He’s probably drunk.” I said, trying to coax her back to her seat.
Dude, I’m not drunk, well, maybe a little. I had like four car bombs and I'm amped. But obviously you are cause you’re talking to this guy. I got two chicks and they are ready to bone!” Mike said, pointing to my now leaving interest.
“Ugh, I don’t have time for this. If you have friends like this jerk then maybe you are one yourself!” The woman said, walking back into the crowd.
I just stared at Mike. If looks could kill he would have died at that moment.
“Ok you’re open now. Come and meet this chick.” Mike said, grabbing me by my arm. I tried one last time to get to the girl I was talking to but, she was already gone, lost in the crowd.
“Mike you blew that for me!” I said as I pulled away from him. “Man! You do this every time!”
“Stop bitchin and come on!” Mike said, walking further into the crowd.
As we were walking out of the club I managed to spot the girl I was talking to. She was talking to another guy in a suit at the bar. I figured I’d be no point in competing with that so I just followed Mike outside. When we got outside, he was searching around the street as if he were looking for someone.
“Mike, look man, you really need to stop trying to force people on me. I really don’t like it.” I said following Mike.
“Hey there they are!” Mike said, waving to some people further down the street
Giving up on trying to talk to Mike at this moment I followed him down the street. As usual, there were his assortment of bimbos. Blonde, Brunette, he even had a redhead in the group, who admittedly was hot.
“Ladies this here is my bro Chris. Chris, this is Donna, Mary, and Jessie.” The redheaded one was Jessie and that’s the only one I cared for.
Mike looked back at me smiling “Still want to find that chick in the club bro?”
I loved the guy, but is there ever a time to punch someone it would be him right now. I would just knock that look right off his face.
Mike Sanders is the kind of guy every guy wants to be. Tall, good-looking, A total jock and he can play like, every sport. He is also aggressive, if you hadn’t noticed. He is a sore loser and a sore winner. And to top it off, he is kind of a jerk to women. But, like I said before, he is my best friend. He always thinks I’m into the same girls he’s into. I’m not, but he sometimes picks out the right ones for me. Now Mike is 6’2 and I’m 5’8 and I ain’t half bad if I do say so myself. I’m not as buff as Mike but I can hold my own. While he is into football and rugby I’m more into fencing and rock climbing. Now, if I aimed for the low hanging fruit I would date the girls that Mike likes. But I’m looking for the smart ones. If we can talk for more than five minutes and she doesn’t say the word “Like” every two minutes there might be something there. If not, then she better be a good fuck.
“You’re lucky one of them is hot.” I whispered to Mike while straightening my Jacket.
“Yeah bro, I knew the redhead would be for you.” He said looking over at me. “I can’t leave you out of the party!”
I smirked a bit. I mean, I still wanted to hit the guy, but I figured it would be other times for that. I walked next to Jessie and greeted myself to her.
“Hey, my name is Chris.” I said to Jessie
“Hi, nice to meet you Chris.” She said extending her hand. I reached out and I shook her hand. She smiled a bit and we got to talking. This girl passed the five minute rule.
What’s the five minute rule, you may ask? I have a rule that if I meet a someone and in the first five minutes they are rude or completely full of themselves, then I mentally check out immediately.
Jessie and I were behind Mike and the two girls he had his arm around while Jessie and I were beginning to make some small talk.
“So what do you do for a living?” I asked
“Well, for a long while I used to be in MLG.” She said sheepishly
“No way, you were in a pro gaming circuit?” I asked somewhat shocked. “I don’t meet many girls who know what MLG is, let alone have played in it.”
“Yup, we were the Konniving Kittens. And we won a couple of first place finishes in Call of Duty.” She said happily. “I started playing competitively since I was fifteen, and I loved beating guys online and pissing them off.”
“It’s not hard to piss people off online.” I said. She laughed and I couldn’t help but notice her laugh was cute.
“3.25. It would be higher, but I just picked up snipers… so I'm getting used to the whole quick scoping thing. What’s yours?”
“A solid 4.0.” I bragged. I felt good about bragging about my kill death ratio.
“Impressive.” Jessie nodded. “I might have to play with you one day.”
“I was thinking the same thing.” I said back. We both shared a laugh
“Hey, you nerds back there having fun?” Mike said, looking back over his shoulder.
“Is that your best friend?” Jessie asked.
“Yeah, he is. He is kind of a dick, but if you take the time to know him, he isn’t that bad.” I looked at Mike, who was tongue kissing one of the girls he had his arm around. I looked back at Jessie. “Yeah…it just takes time.”
Jessie and I started laughing more this time. One of the girls looked back at us and we burst out laughing more.
“You know he said you were funny, but I didn’t think this funny. And you’re kinda cute….just kinda.” She said with a grin.
“Did he say I was cute?” I asked sarcastically
“No, he asked me what do I do and I told him I played games, and he said and I quote “Hey, you like games and shit? I got this guy who plays them and he is kinda funny…you should meet him.” She said mocking Mike’s voice.
“Haha! That’s pretty good!” I said, laughing loudly. The drinks I had made me feel a little more comfortable that usual. I mean I have a loud laugh, but when I’m buzzed I laugh loudly.
We walked up to the front steps to our apartment. Mike and his two girls led the way, followed by Jessie then myself.
