MY BEST FRIEND MY SISTER

by jc
I have a friend named Michelle. With merely 5 feet tall, and not the pretty type, sometimes she'll be bullied by her classmates. They used to call her names like ugly M, witched M and most of the times they call her Mitch the bitch. She ignored them but sometimes it got her. She just cried and walked away. Michelle is a friendly person and a loving daughter. Aside from her looks she's a sweet girl and that's one thing her classmates never knew. They never let her. The bullying thing gets worse everyday. They punched her in the face and they whipped her with a stick. Michelle never told me that, I just saw the bruises in her arms. I asked her what was going on and she just shrugged and said it's nothing. How can I ignore her when she's acting like that? I can't. I talked to one of her classmates (Amy) and she told me everything. I never wasted time so I rushed to Michelle's house..

"Michelle are you there?" I called out outside their house...

"I'm here" she replied.

And she opened the door.

"We need to talk" I said to her while getting inside their house.

"About what?" she asked.

I thought she was mad. Is she angry because I interfere? But that question didn't come out of my mouth.

"What is it?" she asked again.

"That bruises in your arms, aren't you going to tell me something about it?" I asked her with a frown.

"Oh it's nothing. I'm old enough to handle this kind of situation" she replied with a harsh tone.

"By the look of it, you can't!" I asked her and tried to look in her eyes but she looked away.

"I'm not feeling well, we'll talk tomorrow after class" she said to me like begging.

"Are you okay?" I touched her forehead.

She seemed sick. But she ignored it. I went home, and that night I can't sleep a wink.

The next day, I hurried up to the school. It's Friday and I had a long quiz to take.

After class I went to Michelle's classroom and I found out that she was absent. I wonder what happened to her so I decided to go to her house to check on her if she's all right. Her mother greeted me at the door.

"Michelle is sick. She's complaining a back pain and a pain on her stomach." her mother told me.

"She doesn't want anyone to visit her and that includes you" her mother said.

I can see the worried look on her mother's face but what am I gonna do? I can't go to her room because she's avoiding me and I don't know why?

Weeks passed and I missed Michelle already. She doesn't want to talk to me. Her mother talked to me and she said they rushed Michelle to the hospital because she fainted. She was comatose. I can't believe what I heard, I hurried up to her house. There I saw her lying on the bed just like a balloon that runs out of air, falls to the ground limp and exhausted. Some of her classmates were there too. Next morning she stopped breathing. I cried so much and i felt empty at that time. She was my friend and she's like a sister to me too. We used to talk about anything and now she's gone! I felt like I need an explanation. Later did I know that her father was also molesting her. Suddenly I felt blood rushing through my veins. I was so mad upon knowing it. I need the urged to confront her father face to face but he's nowhere to be found anymore. He ran away.

The burial took place as soon as Michelle's sister arrived. It's been raining that day. I pray silently on the bench and cried a lot. She's really gone and now I was left hanging for answers.

It took months to really get back to my own self. And the bullies? Will they're all expelled from the school. What a sweet revenge. But I know that to forgive is the sweetest revenge you can give to anyone who have done wrong to us.
