How To Write a Good History Essay

by CharlesHOrtega
First of all, we should ask what is a good history essay? Perhaps no two people would agree completely if only for the very good reason that quality is in the eye - and reflects the intellectual status of the reader. Thus, the philosopher eschews issues and instead offers practical advice for writing an essay that will receive top marks. The witnesses in the court promise to tell the truth, not the whole truth, but nothing. All history students should take a similar oath: to answer the question, the whole question and nothing but the question. This is the number one rule. You can write brilliantly and argue a case with a wealth of solid evidence, but if you are not relevant, you can tamper with a cymbal. In other words, you have to think very carefully about the question that you have been asked to answer. Be sure to avoid the sin of those weak students, which is difficult to answer the question set by the examiners, but unfortunately, it did not. Take your time, look carefully at the words of the question, and be certain in your own mind that you have understood all its terms well. Here you can best essay writers

If, for example, you are asked why Hitler came to power, you have to define what was involved in this process of coming to power. Are there any specific events that mark the achievement of their power? If you immediately seize on his appointment as Chancellor, think carefully and ask yourself what real powers he has been conferred on this post. Was it more important to pass the enabling act? And when did the rise of power actually begin? Do you have to mention the birth and childhood of Hitler or the hyperinflation of the early 1920s? If you can establish which years are relevant - and which are irrelevant as a result - then you must have started very well. You can then decide on various factors that explain its rise.

Or if you are asked to explain the successes of a particular person, then avoid writing the first thing that comes to your mind again. Think about possible successes. When doing so, you will be automatically presented with the problem of defining 'success. What does it really mean? Is this an achievement of one's purpose? Is it objective (matter of fact) or subjective (matter of opinion)? Do we need to consider short term and long term successes? If the person benefits from extraordinary good fortune, is it still a success? Battling the definition problem will help you to create an annotated list of successes, and then you can go on to explain them, trace their origins and how and why they occurred. Is there an important common factor in successes? If yes, this may constitute the central thrust of your answer.

The main word in the above paragraphs is the idea. It should be different from remembering, daydreaming and silly speculation. Thinking is rarely a pleasant undertaking, and most of us do it to avoid time. But unfortunately, there is no option if you want to get the top grade. So think as hard as you can about the meaning of the question, think about the issues that can be raised by you and answer those ways. You have to think and think hard - and then you must think again, trying to find flaws in your logic. Eventually, you will almost certainly get confused. Don't worry: Confusion is often an essential stage in the achievement of clarity. If you get completely confused, take a break. When you return to the question, the problems may have solved themselves. If not, give yourself more time. You can understand well that in unexpected times your thoughts are easily put in your conscious mind.
