His eyes

by swethakp
Though we crossed paths often,
I noticed him not;
Though we knew of each other's existence,
I spoke to him not.

When he became an acquaintance,
Though we shared nothing concrete,
Those few times among mutual friends,
Never once did our eyes meet.

When he became a friend,
Messages and tweets became the way.
Again, his eyes,
I never met in full sway.

And as days went by,
He had stolen my heart,
Leaving me no warning.
Ignorant I remained, not quite smart .

The next day he came for me,
Face to face we stood;
And looked eye to eye,
Finally shedding the hood.

Never before have I felt ,
Something so frightening,
Yet so invigorating,
That it was a tad unsettling.

I could feel my bones melt,
But couldn't tear my eyes away;
I had been waiting too long,
And the void flew away.

The feel of a safe haven,
That I could be hurt in no way;
A feel so strong
That it swept me away.

Now, five years later,
When our eyes meet for the gazillionth time,
I still get swept away,
Not unlike the very first time.

Dheep and Amoli were racing as usual from Dheep's house to Amoli's hut on the other end of the paddy field. Amoli always won the race, so when Dheep reached Amoli's hut before her, he was surprised and looked back disbelievingly. His disbelief...

As she took her last breath, she had only one thought. Not remorse, not guilt. Not shame, not anguish. She was at peace. Finally.
