Dark Desire - Part 3 of 4

by Sharmishtha Shenoy
Somehow he got the documents signed and then he almost ran out of the door. By the time he reached office, he had himself in control and tried to put Helen out of his mind. But she kept intruding in his thoughts. He also realized that he had left his umbrella behind in Helen’s apartment. The image of her beautiful, lush and voluptuous body haunted his mind. Her sexy voice and come hither looks made him lust after her so much that he was afraid that he would make mistakes in his work. He also instinctively knew that she was a highly sexual woman who would not hesitate to take on a lover if she fancied him. He could only think about how good she would be in bed.
Next day he got a call from Helen. ‘You have left out your umbrella in my house. When do you want to collect it?’ He felt excited at the prospect of seeing Helen again and he instinctively knew that the umbrella was just an excuse and she also wanted to see him as badly as he wanted to see her. He said that he would collect the umbrella around 7 pm that evening. As before Helen opened the door. She was wearing a skin tight dress that showed off her curves. She had also found Tony to be very attractive. She had fantasized about his lean body since their first meeting. Tony stared at her mesmerized. She was also breathing hard and the sexual tension between them was very high. Tony entered the apartment and closed the front door. She grabbed him and kissed him. Then she took his hand and led him to the bedroom. Briefly he tried to protest, ‘I am married you know!’ But she was already doing things to him which made him forget everything. When he woke up, Tony saw that it was already nine in the evening. He was feeling drained and totally guilt ridden. All his lust for Helen had evaporated. Helen had taken him like a black widow spider, devouring him and utterly draining him. He thought that she was nothing more than a nymphomaniac and a sexually depraved individual. He wanted to get away as far from her as possible. He dressed and said feverishly, ‘I must go now!’
Helen giggled and said, ‘Why are you getting so nervous? I am not going to tell your wife. So when will I see you again.’
Tony said, ‘I am happily married and it is better if I do not see you again.’
Helen smiled and said, ‘But I want to see you again. I will call you when I want you. Of course you don’t want your wife to know – so I will call you during office hours. See you soon!’
The very thought of seeing Helen again filled Tony with revulsion, but he felt helpless. He knew that she was blackmailing him and was subtly telling him that she would inform Kate if he did not pleasure her in bed. He felt relieved to get out of the apartment. On reaching home he told his wife that he was not feeling well. He took a shower as he felt very unclean, and feeling better, went to sleep utterly exhausted. Next morning he was wracked with guilt and also apprehensive that Kate would find out. He had a tough time behaving normally with her, and felt better after reaching his office and concentrating on work.
By the end of the day, he felt a lot more composed and decided that it was a mistake that he would never repeat again. He would resist Helen and not give in to her blackmail. He bought a bunch of roses for Kate and went home. Kate was very pleased to receive the flower, but was immediately suspicious. ‘What have you done? Why are you trying to soften me up?’
Tony said, ‘No – I just felt that I do not appreciate you enough.’
‘Hmmm’ Kate said – still suspicious. However, she seemed pleased. To prevent another cooking disaster, Tony had pre-ordered dinner from their favorite restaurant and the same was home delivered to them by 9 pm. After having a very satisfying meal, Tony switched on the TV and was shocked at the news. There had been another murder and this time, Helen had been murdered. It seemed that she was alone in the apartment when the intruder had entered and after raping her had killed stabbed her violently. The murder happened last night but the body was discovered on that day in the afternoon after her maid had entered the apartment – it seemed she had a key. The security guard was being questioned. Tony recalled that the security guard had seen him entering the apartment with Helen. But when he had left, he was not therein his post. Tony started to sweat. He feverishly started to think about what excuse he would give regarding why he was there. He also recalled that previously when he had gone to collect the Bank documents, he had to write his name and phone – so he knew that the police would get on to him very soon. He thought that he would tell them that he had gone to handover the check book and other documents to Helen.
That night for the first time in five years, he failed his wife. Kate was immediately solicitous. She asked, ‘What happened? You look tense. Are you facing problems in office?’
