Busted

by Blair
" I love you."  He whispered.

"I love you."   The voice said again and louder this time around

"I really do love you Samantha."

"But-"

" shhh... no buts my love. I know it sounds stupid and I know what you must be thinking.

True, we haven't  known each other that long but believe me when I say that it feels like I have known you for ages. Am quite aware that you might feel differently but I just have to get it all out please." He summarized.

The rush at which he spoke with had him stopping at intervals to catch his breath

"I really want a chance to love you now and tomorrow...."

She looked at him beyond shocked. Was he really saying all these to her? She had to pinch herself twice to make sure she wasn't dreaming.

She had waited to hear those exact words from him for so many years that she had lost faith.

She had given him trails making no efforts to hide her desperation whatsoever, each trail always so clear that even a blind man would be able to pick it up from a distance; a blind man could have but not Andrew, he was only bent on being just friends.

Andrew, wasn't the kind of guy that hung a lot; so no one really understood him completely;  his emotions were always unpredictable. One day he was all lovey-dovey and the next he was plain cold. Samantha, at some point felt he didn't play the ladies team, thanking God on one hand that she didn't have to hate any girl and jealous on the other hand that she had to compete with a guy for his affections.

Was Andrew really saying those three words which had stolen sleep from her eyes all night long?

OMG! She said to herself trying as much as possible to suppress her excitement.

"Are you even listening to me Samantha?"

The huskiness of his voice startling her back to reality; she had been completely wrapped up in her own thoughts that she didn't even notice she had stopped paying attention

"Yes, yes, I am." she quickly said not wanting to ruin the moment

"So?"

"So what?" She replied wanting him to repeat the question

" So do you want to be my girlfriend? "

Although, she would have imagined him saying that a bit differently but she didn't mind. Afterall, he was still  Andrew, the least romantic guy ever.

"Was he crazy? " She thought to herself,  she had literally lived for this scene.  She coughed a bit taking her time; not wanting to be hurried or harried, so as not to lose her role as a lady and prevent a glimpse at her haste.

"Yes, I would love to." she finally said

Damn she liked the thought of it.

Her chest pounding, really pounding, each beat getting louder than the former, she even feared he might hear it.

There gaze held on longer and she could swear he was leaning over to kiss her, she didn't care about where they were, she really wanted to taste those lips.

She closed her eyes encouraging him, tilting her head, lips slightly parted awaiting  the warmth of his breath.

His hand caressed her bare skin as he tucked her hair behind her ear, she had to hold on to her chair to avoid her body failing her.

She could feel his face getting closer; finally she would be able to satisfy her curiosity as to what his lips would taste like.

Samantha!!

Something was wrong....

Why was he calling her name that way

Oh! no, did he just chicken out, did she misunderstand him? Oh! God, what?

Samantha!!! The voice was becoming louder now.

Samantha!! Samantha!!! Now, she recognised the voice  and unfortunately, rather too well and it wasn't Andrew's, it was her mum's.

Shit! She cursed, calmly opening eyes praying she didn't say anything embarrassing.

"If you continue this way, you might never get to school." Her mum said.

"I think I have malaria mum; I guess I will just stay in-"

" Ah... Ah.... No, you don't, sweetheart." her mum replied as she stood up.

The mischievous smile she was trying to suppress with a whistle confirmed Samantha's fears, she had said something stupid.

"Only God knows how long she will taunt me for this one.

"Damn you Andrew!" She said through clenched teeth as she covered her ears with the pillow hating the day already.
