Bewildering Cry

Peachy was a twenty something . She was living with her partner, Robin, 30 years old, in a slum area in the city of Manila. She was separated from her husband, Rafael, about her age, who used to hurt her whenever he was drunk. She was on the ninth month of her second pregnancy. She and Robin was happy being together. Robin was a good provider and stepfather to Luigi, Peachy's first child .
She had regular prenatal check-ups in a nearby health center. Her pregnancy was uneventful . One moonless night while watching her favorite soap opera,"On the Wings of Love," she started to have regular, painful contractions. She had profuse vaginal bleeding. She called Robin via telephone because Robin was out with his friends.
"Come home, Robin! I think I am going to deliver now." She said.
"All right, I will be there in a jiffy," Robin answered.
Robin was tipsy when he came with his friends. But the effect of alcohol seemed disappear when he saw blood on the floor where Peachy was.She was screaming in pain. She was getting pale, too. He picked her up and they immediately rode the jeep that was being driven by one of his friends. Peachy was brought to a nearby hospital. After laboratory examinations and ultrasound, it was found out that Peachy was a case of abruptio placenta. It was attributed to Peachy's high blood pressure . The doctors worked fast to save her and the baby. She was rushed to the operating room and she was immediately delivered via cesarean section. Two units of blood were transfused and after 48 hours, she looked well. Robin at that time was worried and he was looking around for ways to pay up the incurred bill. Fortunately, his friend , Kardo, who was owner of the jeep that drove them that night, was able to borrow from his jeep operator/employer. While Peachy was being operated on, he talked to Kardo to help him.
The baby was a boy and Robin named it his junior. Peachy was elated when she saw him first. She immediately carried him to her arms and breastfed him when he was brought to her by the nurse on her third day in the hospital. She was seen talking to the baby. She was humming songs and was smiling and laughing in mirth. Robin , inspite of the distress that the event caused him, was glad to his fiancee having a good time with their newborn son. He called her family and his parents to share the news. They were happy for them , but poor as they were, they could not give financial help.
After five days in the hospital, Peachy was sent home. Her sister came to look after her while Robin was out for work. Peachy complained about a disturbing headache. Inspite of paracetamol, she started to become irritable. She yelled at Luigi whenever she saw him. She threw him pillows or toys that were within her reach. Her sister saw her and she told her to be tolerant of the toddler. On her third day at home, She and Robin was eating their brunch. She felt sudden fang of sadness. She felt the need to cry, and so, she wept. Robin held her hand and asked her," Honey, what is wrong?" Robin jumped from his seat and hugged her. She continued crying. She said, " I feel so unhappy. I am so unhappy." Robin continued to comfort her, inspite of the mysterious reason why she was tearful. She said she felt so unloved and she felt very hopeless. Robin denied that she was not loved because she was his significant other . Peachy stopped crying, but after a couple of hours , she was again crying. Robin saw her lying on her tummy in their bed. She did not want to be comforted. So, Robin went to the living room to watch "Aldub." After half an hour, he called her to sit beside him. Inspite of the jokes and the funny actions of the actors in the show, Peachy was crying incessantly. She stopped when she fell asleep.
That night, Peachy refused to take dinner. She was breatfeeding baby Junior. She was screaming, "No, I don't want to eat" whenever Robin asked her to take dinner. Robin decided to prepare the food on a tray and served it to her in their bedroom. However, she threw the tray to the window. Robin get angry. "Why did you do that?It is hard to earn money to buy what we eat!"
Peachy screamed, "I hate you!" She pushed Robin to the door. She cried incessantly.
That very night, Luigi ran hastily to lie down beside her on the bed to sleep. She was caught in surprise. She spanked Luigi on his back. She pushed him off the bed. The cries of the child were heard outside. So, Robin came in and saw Luigi crying on the floor.
"What happened? " He asked the child. Luigi pointed his little finger to his mother. He stood up and faced Peachy.
"What is wrong with you? You are hurting him!"
"I hate you!" Peachy yelled. "I hate all of you." Robin picked Luigi up and brought him on the couch in the living room. He went
back to Peachy and told her, "You are getting impossible!"
He went to the living room to spend the night there with Luigi.
When they were sound asleep, Peachy slowly walked to Robin in the couch and she suddenly stroke him with her hands on the chest. She got herself a broom and stroke Robin with it . She continuously said, "I hate you!"
Surprised from his slumber, he caught her hands and he took her to the bedroom. Luigi cried when he woke up and saw the commotion. Robin carried the baby in one arm and Luigi on the other. He left the house with the kids. Peachy was crying the whole night.
Robin went to the house of his parents and told them his problem with Peachy. They have decided to bring Peachy to the Barangay (Village Council) to report the violence she did.
The next day, the Barangay councilors went to pick Peachy up at home. She refused to entertain them. However, they were decided to see Peachy to see what her problem was. With them was a Barangay health worker(BHW). She told them that from the story told by Robin, she might be suffering from postpartum blues/depression that might had become a psychosis. They unlocked the door and brought Peachy to the nearby hospital.
Peachy, twentysomething, was dignosed of Psychosis. She claimed that she thought that she heard voices that said that Robin was going to poison her. That was why she did not want to eat. She also saw a woman beside little Luigi , who she thought was Robin's another woman. There was , actually, no woman in the house except her. She was hallucinating.
She underwent behavioral therapy and medications. She was discharged improved.
