Wrong Send, Again!

by Slave Prince
Let's begin by the end of this not-so-magical-nor-romantic story: Ellie was kicked out from Glass Heart High School and swore to kill the one who started the rumor; Chloe, with all the students and teachers of her school, was outside the public hospital waiting for ...

--- Seven months earlier --

"Wait, what?"

"The hell will give you an invitation for that, Anna."

"She's with Mr. Fin?"

"The three of you are more stupid than my parents. What I just said is freaking true, as true as, well, I am the most beautiful bitch in this school!"

Chloe was pretending to tie her shoelaces while listening to the group of girls at the main gate of Glass Heart High School. She was mostly to be the valedictorian, every classmate of hers knew that. But even with a very wide open mind, she could not still believe what the girls were talking. She arrived late at the private conversation, but she could tell that the SHE they were talking about, was the SHE she hated the most --- Ellie!

Ellie Bill. The heartless barbie girl in the school. Every trying-hard girl loved her. Why wouldn't they? She's on the top of the social hierarchy. She's the owner of the shining and million-dollar red car parked near the gate, the president of English Club and -- based on what Chloe just heard -- was the boyfriend of Mr. Ricky, the hottest teacher in school. Even though having a relationship with a teacher will get a student kicked out, she wouldn't mind, as long as the principal had no idea about it.

With an ace on her hand, Chloe walked in the classroom with a great unoriginal plan in his head. Before lunch, she would buy a new sim card, text the whole school, including the principal (she had all their numbers), and be the only person craving for the top position. What a plan!

As she was walking out the school to buy a sim card, a loud honk woke her nerves. She's on Ellie's car way. Chloe stood still. Ellie opened the window and said, "Hi Chloe! Do you mind getting out of the way, I'm on my way to Ricky's Grill Place for lunch."

"And grill the owner also?" Chloe stepped her right foot on the other. She realized how rude it was to drop a sarcastic line on Ellie's face.

"When did you start becoming a bitch? Out of the way f-ing idiot!"

Ellie ran the car fast forcing Chloe to step aside. The crowd around the gate had their eyes on Chloe, who at that time, was ready to fire her ace. The scene where Ellie called Chloe a bitch and idiot would spread within the school in an hour. Chloe would never let that happen. So she ran to a loading station, bought a sim card, clicked it inside the cell phone, typed the message, and pressed send. If everyone believed the text, Chloe's embarrassing moment would never be the topic of the school, but instead, it would be the secret relationship between a hot teacher and a hot student.

It was one in the afternoon, Chloe had just sat on her chair, when Ellie, showed up with teary eyes.

"Can you help me, Chloe? I really need a real friend right now, " said Ellie. The words were so genuine that it was hard to believe that Ellie already knew that she's the one who sent the message. "I have a friend inside the principal's office and she saw the official ranking for our graduation. And there is this f-ing text from a stranger that I have a relationship with Mr. Ricky. I'm the official valedictorian of our batch. But I'm scared. What if the principal finds out about the rumor?"

Chloe's fingers were frozen. This was worst of all worst things. Ellie's the valedictorian?

"We are not friends, " She couldn't control her mouth. "Why are you the valedictorian? Did your parents paid the school? You're the real bitch here. I am not. I think the principal will find out all your dirty secrets."

After school, the principal posted the rankings on the school news board. Chloe was the valedictorian. The principal told her that Ellie and Mr. Ricky were both kicked out of school, and Ellie was two months pregnant.

Chloe graduated as a valedictorian. But her heart was heavy with conscience. The cheers and claps of the crowd couldn't relieve the pain.

---

After seven months, Chloe received a message that today Ellie will give her birth in the public hospital. She texted all the alumni, students, and teacher to attend the special day of Ellie. It was one in the afternoon when Ellie gave her first birth to a baby girl. Chloe was invited by a doctor to get inside the delivery room.

Chloe took out her cell phone and opened the undeleted message(the rumor). She would finally confess to Ellie, and be ready whatever curse Ellie would spell to her. She couldn't sleep any more nights pretending she didn't ruin one's life.

Ellie was lying weakly on the hospital bed. Her husband was carrying the baby.

"Chloe, you came! This is so exciting." said Ellie.

"Shhh, Ellie, " her husband said. "Don't talk too much. You need to gain back your energy."

Ellie just ignored him and smiled to Chloe. "I have a very good news for you, Chloe."

"I have a bad news for you, Ellie. But never mind."

"I named my child Chloe. You've been my idol since the first year in high school. I know the last time I see you, you're angry with me. Maybe because you really care, and I appreciate it. "

Chloe almost melted. She hugged Ellie and kissed the baby.

She looked at the undeleted text for the last time. Her fingers were already shaking. Instead of pressing the "delete" button to erase the painful past, she pressed the "resend" button.
