We are a Great Nation

WE ARE A GREAT NATION
A Poem
by Austin Mitchell

What this nation has achieved
Nations many times our size haven’t achieved
Our athletes are the best
Our scholars are among the best

We produce some of the best foods
People come to Jamaica to eat our foods
Yes, we are small but we are great
The things we do are great

Nations come looking for our best ones
As they graduate they are gone
Gone to other shores, our best ones
We know that they are not alone

We know that they are contributing
Wherever they go in the world
They put out their best
There are some not contributing

We know they cause a lot of problems
But the good always outweigh the bad
We haven’t even talked about our culture
Or talked about our music

People love our music
They revel in our culture
But for the crime
Jamaica would be a great country
