The Note

by PenFairy
"Do NOT Do it!"

She peered out to the corridor and searched for the sender. As much as she tried, she was unable to find anyone. Disappointment, yet again.

"Who is this person who constantly drops these notes? How could they just vanish into thin air??"

Her train of thoughts were interrupted by the ringing of her Xperia Z3.

Making a mental note to have a word with the building manager, she went in to grab her phone.

"Hello?"

"Hey love! Are you ready yet? What are you wearing? Are you wearing that dreadful black dress? Please don't. You look like you are calling the dead when you wear that. Why don't you wear that red dress I got for you last year? You look stunning....."

"Kathy...Kat...KATHY!!!!"

She had to yell into the mouthpiece to stop her friend from drowning her with questions and apparently, it worked.Kathy went silent.

"Good. Now to answer your questions. No, I am not ready yet. No I am not wearing the black dress. No, I am not wearing the red dress either. I am wearing the blue dress and I am running late. I will talk to you when I get back. Bye"

She hung up before her friend could say another word. She took a deep breath. She really was running late.

1 hour later, she was in the elevator, down to the lobby and past the reception, when the receptionist called out to her.

"I am sorry Miss, but you received a letter today."

She said as she handed me a purple envelope without the name of a sender.

"Who sent this?", she asked curiously.

"A child about 10 years old, miss. He said a gentleman on the street asked to pass it to you", came the reply.

Her instincts went haywire. Her "womanly-guts" told her something was definitely wrong.

"Do NOT step out of the lobby. P.S : You look gorgeous in the blue dress."

Her breath was caught in her throats. Who was this person? How does he know I was wearing this dress?

"Should I cancel this date? And miss out on the only chance to be with the guy I have had crush on for like forever? NO WAY. I am going on this date, even if it kills me!"

But she had no time to worry now. She was late. She thanked the receptionist and stepped out the lobby and hailed a cab.

-----

"Where is he? I have been knocking on this door for 5 minutes! Has he forgot our date?" She thought to herself as she banged on the door.

Her date did not answer his door. He was suppose to cook her a romantic dinner.

She turned the doorknob, the door was open. She stepped in slowly.

"Hello? Are you there? I am coming in....Jason? Hello......?"

As she called out, her eyes surveyed the room, and as she approached the kitchen, she saw him.

She froze. All her senses shut down.

There he lay, in a pool of blood. A knife comfortably resting on his chest with a note sticking out from it.

"I told you not to do it."

She remembered her vow before she stepped out of her apartment "I am going on this date, even if it kills me."

Well, someone is surely dead, and it was not her.

Was she suppose to be happy to be alive? Or guilty for causing the death of her crush?
