The New Tenant

by Teddy Kimathi
He has a grin for a smile, and a long coat that covers his feet.
His face gives an impression of a deeply mysterious man, who lives
in riddles. He is my next door neighbor, who lives his lights
on throughout the night. Sometimes I see shadows moving
on the light between the door and the floor of his room.
Almost every night, I hear soft tunes of a piano playing in his room;
tunes that are eerie to the deepest core of my bone marrow.
Most of my neighbors wonder whether he has a recycling plant in his room,
for no single day has he ever taken his garbage out.
