The Masquerade

by Lea Ebio
It was a solemn night
without a star in sight
the moon is trying to hide within the dark clouds
while the bell makes a rythmic sound
beckoning to the people to make haste
coz the party will begin so late...

An hour before midnight such untimely hour
indeed the invited guests arrives clad in mask and glamour
and so they enter the lighted room
and the party begins and so was the doom...

Amidst the crowd of dazed dancers
all tipsy with the drinks and celebration
and between the drunk and noisy drinkers
a shadow is dancing and dancing as it enter
and stop soundlessly in one dim corner...

The clock signals its hand and the darkness begins
as one shrill scream disturbed the scene
and before they could discover who owns that voice
a lifeless body clad in silk drop with such poise
a nd horror struck them all
as they watch another bloodstained body fall
They scream and scatter around to run for their lives
because they don't know to whom and where the death next will strike
and while the murder began the bell tolls
and add another shiver to all...

While the panic increase the living decrease....
the death is like a contagious disease
It scatter in every human breathing
ready to take away in its journey all that's living...

And one man stand hidden
watching as one by one dead bodies crumple
he watch fearfully the murder of all those people
being able to escape death..he was thankful...
yet the murder is not yet over
as the masked killer deliver the death of his last victim
The old man cried "unmask! unmask!" to him
then lay there...motionless till death gripped him...
and as the survivor watch the murderer unmask his hidden face
He turn and look and shock and horror came
as he came face to face with his inner self
then a horrifying realization of the crime consumed his mind
He brought his final act of murder upon himself
as death now dance eerily among the dead
then darkness..a never-ending darkness
engulf him followed by defeaning silence
and now death has come upon the murderer.
