The Librarians

by Teddy Kimathi
Two robots moved into the deepest storage of knowledge in the library, as they carried crystals. These were no ordinary crystals. They contained information that humans’ computers would take eons to compress into a folder for storage. Every crystal could carry holograms of billions of information about a single planet or solar system.
Each of the robots carrying the crystals was well skilled in martial arts, and the use of saber swords. They were dressed in long gowns like monks, and their bodies had a very human-like appearance. They acted as the librarians and protectors of the library’s knowledge.
There were hundreds of such other robots in the library, carrying and protecting crystals. Surprisingly they didn’t make any noise at all as they walked or stored information in the super vault. They communicated through telepathy.
They could also tell if there was an incoming invasion, at least a light year away! The crystals automatically disintegrated into dust, in response to negative energy released by the invaders.
Only once they were attacked, by an alien race of Angea. The invaders went in a stealth formation, without being detected by the robots’ telepathic powers. Laser guns installed in the fortress walls too couldn’t detect the Angean spaceships. They were invisible and didn’t emit any energy.
Library doors opened, and soon the battle began. Saber swords, laser guns, and martial arts were nothing compared to the invaders psychic abilities. The robots drifted in the air helplessly, as the intruders searched for the super vault.
A spy robot had told them everything about it. Three months before the invasion, the robot was found sneaking into the super vault alone, by a hidden camera. He was soon found guilty of Betrayal of Universal Virtues, and executed by being vaporized in a laser cell.
The robots were not worried about the security of their library work. The super vault could only open when there is no single detection of negative energy. This technology, including designing the robots, was owed to Critians, the long lost ancestors of the Angeans.
They existed a million years ago, in a colony of solar systems they called Critia. Technology unfortunately superseded their moral call in the universe. They perceived themselves as gods and masters of knowledge.
A vacuum for sucking time one day lost control in a lab. It sucked the scientists, the lab, and environs that were close. It was quite a slow process.
Recovering their integrity as benevolent beings, was the only change the Critians would make for themselves, in their limited time. They designed highly intelligent robots, which could build, reason, clone, and defend themselves. Their mission was to recover and hide knowledge that would be dangerous for any race in the universe.
The prototype robots were therefore sent as scouts in deep space, to gather any knowledge they would find, and categorize it later. Some information was too much for them, that they almost short-circuited.
Soon, the idea of storing information in crystals, and cloning themselves bore fruit. By that time, most of their creators had been sucked by the vacuum. The survivors escaped with their space pods to any wormholes they found. There was no time to determine any signs of life to their destinations.
Luckily for the robots, they had leaped into another universe, by opening a portal. Remnants of Critian history and technology were hidden in crystals. A super-storage facility had to be built, to contain huge information. A library had to be built.
It took half a decade, for the library to be built. There was a fortress wall all around it. Aura Constellation was the library’s location. An asteroid belt protected the library from possible invaders. The knowledge in the library was too precious to be stolen and abused.
Angeans were really thirsty for that knowledge hidden in the secret vault. They wanted it all for themselves, finally becoming masters of the universe across time and eternity.
The library wouldn’t allow them to carry any shred of knowledge. The doors between the super vault entrance and the main entrance to the library automatically closed. An invisible sleeping gas was released, sending every Angean to sleep. The robots soon gradually came down, as the Angean psychic abilities on them weakened.
The intruders turned into prisoners. They were chained and sent to a prison planet in Oort star systems, two light years away. The prisons had an automatic psychic deterrent system, which blocked psychic abilities of prisoners who had them.
After all the information was stored in the super vault, a sphere would then be created, which would carry all the good and peaceful information. Soon it would be cast into a time portal, and sent into a time and constellation where the last of the Critians were re-building their civilization. The knowledge would create a better universe for all races in their universe.
The librarians would then keep on protecting the knowledge they collected, until when all races in all the universes reached their highest level of consciousness.
