The Doctor and the Clown

by DanielRGarbo
It was a calm and sunny day. A small town is celebrating a week long feast for their saint. It was a big event and a circus was invited to perform for the townsmen every night for the whole feast. On the eastern side of the town, a small psychological clinic was located. There, people used to come for advice, explanations, and treatment whenever they are feeling uncomfortable with the way they behave around. It was Doctor Bren, who’s been assigned to check the mental health of the entire town’s people.
One day, an awfully sad man went to the clinic for the doctor’s advice. Doctor Bren took only a glance on the man and guessed that his visitor was not certainly ill but rather depressed. He led him to a small room at the back of the clinic for further discussions about the sensation of the patient. The doctor asked a lot of questions to the sad man, and the he willingly answered all the questions being asked. After a long talk, Doctor Bren was now fully sure that his patient is melancholic and on the state of depression. He told it to the sad man and, upon hearing it, he said, “You’re right! So right! And I doubt if there’s any cure but, I thought I should come to see you just to make doubly sure.” With excitement, the doctor replied to what the patient told him and said, “I am so glad that you did because, as it just so happens that this is the perfect place for this. I am not going to give you a tonic, nor a pill, or any other medicine; just a word of advice so take it if you will. Last night, I went to the circus that just arrived in town. There I watched a whole array of acts but, the best of them all is the clown. Grock is his name, and believe me he really is a clown and a half! He will double you up in stitches, roll you down on the ground, and promise you will never forget to laugh! I guarantee if you see him all your troubles will melt away, so book yourself a ringside seat at once without delay.”
After the long speech of the doctor, the sad man stood-up and thanked him for the advice. He shuffled towards the door while, the doctor noticed that he had gone sadder than before. So, before the sad man vanished he said to him, “Take my word for it, at least give the clown a chance.” And, the clown seriously looked at Doctor Bren and summoned a rueful smile. Then, it suddenly appeared to the doctor to ask his patient’s name, “I know all your problem, and the reason why you came here to my clinic but, if you mind who exactly are you?” The sad man bowed his head and said in a low-toned voice, “Haven’t you guessed already? I am Grock the one that you’ve been talking to me before.” And he walked out and left the clinic of Doctor Bren.
