The Cursed Doll

by M.D Khamil
“I don’t like that doll. You need to get that thing out of my house James.” Said Cath, a mother of two beautiful young girls.
“But Bella loves that doll. She’ll get angry if I take it. She even gets angry if I touch it.” Replied James. James worked as a security officer in the town bank building and this month his shift was changed to night shift, since his other colleague was on leave. He only gets to see his family during day time. It worried him to leave them in the nights, since the old house they have just moved in situated deep in the woods. The only reason he decided to choose the house because of its being so cheap and affordable.

“There is something wrong with that doll James. I’ve seen it.”
“What are you talking about Cath? What did you see?”
“That thing killed our dog!” Cath raising her voice.
“It was an accident Cath, you’re imagining things. Rocky was ran over by the car on the road. Luckily Mr. Morisson found it there and bring it back home.”
“No it didn’t! That demonic doll killed Rocky! I saw that thing dragged our dog to the road after the god damn thing slit the poor thing’s throat!”
“Honey, you need to relax and have some rest. I’ll start working soon. Please take care of yourself and our kids. I’ll bring you to see the doctor tomorrow. You’re hallucinating. I’ll have to hang up the phone now. Love you baby.”
“James! James!” But James already ended up the conversation.

Lucy was still awake, it was almost nine o’clock in the evening. Cath was sitting on a sofa with her mobile phone still on her hand. Lucy ran downstairs and hugged her mother.
“Why aren’t you sleeping yet? Said Cath.
“Mom I’m scared. I can’t sleep. Bella’s doll keeps on staring at me. Can I sleep with you tonight?”
“Don’t worry dear, yes you’ll sleep with me tonight.” She caressed her daughter’s hair.
“Mom, why Bella is being mean to me? She won’t let me near her or play with her toys. Sometimes she pulled my hair and hit me, without me doing anything to her. She always talk to herself, talking to the doll and chase me out of the room.”
“I’m so sorry dear. Your sister is . . . Sick. I promise you it won’t happen again. Let me read you a story before you go to bed.”

Lucy had already fast asleep in Cath and James bedroom. She’s determined to get this thing solved by her own hand. Now. She went upstairs and opened the door to Bella’s bedroom slowly. She saw the doll was being placed on a rocking chair next to Bella’s bed. Slowly, without making any noise, she took the doll and quickly bring it out of the bedroom to the front yard of their house. She had one thing in mind. To burn the doll for good. She had gasoline and a match with her at the ready. She poured the doll with gasoline and step backwards in a few distance. Just when she was about to ignite the match a soft voice from behind stopped her.

“What are you doing mommy?” Bella was standing with her head looking down to the ground. Her hair was covering her entire face.
“Bella? You need to go sleep now my dear. You’re not well. I’ve got something to finish first.” Cath was shivering for no reason almost paralyzed with fear, she turned back and to her shocked the doll was gone.
“Looking for this mommy?” said Bella holding the cursed doll. Cath now completely not herself. Her movement was controlled by the demon. She took the gasoline, poured it on top of her head and set herself on fire.
